Even though I thought Kovalev deserved to win (close), Ward IS smaller than him and accomplished everything at 168, can still put him above Kovalev even if you think Kovalev won
Bull****! Ward did not unify at 168 and ducked Bute, Dirrell, DeGale and Steglitz. He is the same size as Kovalev and was given a gift because of his passport. He along with Salido are the two dirtiest fighters in the sport and he will do everything in his power not to fight Kovalev again. If Ward deserves to be above kovalev then why did no independent ranking services move him ahead of Kovalev P4P?
What do you mean he didn't unify? He beat Kessler for the WBA and unified against Froch in the Super 6 finals. He ducked Bute? How? He wasn't even an established fighter at that time regardless of holding the IBF trinket and once he fought a fighter who would test him, he got destroyed. Overrated a fighter as it comes. Dirrell would never fight him, at the time DeGale became noticed he didn't bring much beside his gold medal and Ward moved up to bigger and better things and fought Kovalev. Stiglitz? Oh brother I was at that fight when he got stopped by librado Andrade at the casamayor-Katsidis fight, and Ward would have schooled him. Lol.. cmon now.
I was gonna move him to #1 if he won, but Walters pulling a Clottey kind of takes some sauce off of the win. I'd move him up into the top four. Put him above Golovkin.
no one should EVER buy Ring magazine again after they put a female fighter from another 'sport' on the cover. 'Boxing News' magazine is the bible of boxing
My order: Loma Rigo Ward/Kovalev Gonzales Crawford GGG Hard to know where to put Pac really given that he's semi-retired but he's in there somewhere, if not at the top.
I honestly don't know how to to order the list. I defo have Loma top 5 now tho.. P4p is simply a discussion. A subjective debate and has no iron clad basis in fact or reality really. It's not something tangible so everyone has a right to there opinion on it. The criteria is also different for each individual, resume, skill, accomplishment.... If I were pushed id go these as my top 10: Ward/Kovalev tied for #1 Gonzales Loma Pac Rigo Crawford Alvarez Frampton Inoue Fury if he hasn't mentally imploded or Usyk as #10.... See it's so bloody difficult!!
Top 5. He's in the best form of anyone in the Top 10..But I think Cuadras was a more relevant win for Gonzalez even if he obviously had a much tougher time in the fight. I think Kovalev and Ward both performed well enough against one another to consolidate their rankings in the Top 3, too. But I think Loma's definitely in the discussion for the next tier of slots.
Thought of Ward ducking Bute or DeGale is just as stupid as the thought of GGG ducking Lara or Eubank. And he will be above Kovalev in p4p rankings by december. Bank on it.
My current top 10: Ward Kovalev Loma Gonzalez Rigo lil G Alvarez Crawford Pac Frampton (Honourable mention: Fury)
