Correct me if I'm wrong but is it true that Loma has a shorter reach than all but one of his opponents to date? The legend continues to grow...
Reach is overrated, it is measured from fingertip to fingertip. What is important is arm length. Chenko has a short reach because he has very narrow shoulders.
Also means his frame cannot support the higher weight classes but hes still trying. Narrower your shoulders the less your frame can handle.
He does seem to have a shorter reach but he's usually much bigger than his opponents and has yet to fight anyone that's truly talented even close to his size
"Truly Talented" .... What do you class Rigo as ? Gary Russell Jr ? "Even close to his size".... Linares was over 15lbs bigger than Loma.
I'm not sure how many times I have to keep doing this Loma said he was 137 for Rigo (Rigo was 130 with clothes on the morning of the fight IIRC) and it was reported he was 138 for the Linares fight, Linares was reputedly 152 but at the very least he had a 7lb advantage on Loma, at the very least. Loma 139 - Sosa 142 Not sure what Loma and Marriaga weighed for their fight but Marriaga was 135 when he fought Walters down at 126, just 2lbs less than Loma weighed for three of his fights up at 130 and Walters couldn't stop Marriaga despite having 10lbs on him. Loma 137 - Walters 136 Loma 137 - Martinez 144 At 126 Loma 134 - Koasicha 133 Loma 138 - Rodriguez 132 Loma 138½ - Russell 138 Loma 136 - Salido 147 Loma 132 - Piriyapinyo 137 Loma 129 - Ramirez 135
Yes, reach is important, many ATG's of the past had superior reach, yet Loma is shorter and has trex arms, he still wins the fights out of ability alone. Truly a legend. Many people on here are threatened by him because he owns.
Yep, he's got short arms. It's not a big problem <=130, but at lightweight, we might get into territories (e.g. Easter) where it's going to be at levels where he'll be in a significant disadvantage. But his style is very much built around that fact, he's extremely good at closing the distance Tyson style with head movement and footwork.
