I use long distance running to improve my stamina in the gym. Usually 2-3 times a week, during the resting days I run track for 40 min to 1 hour. After running for about 30 min I start to sprint in short bursts to help explosiveness in my legs or combine it with running up/down the stairs with ankle weights. Do any of you use long distance running to help your stamina? Has it been working well for you? What other techniques can I use to improve stamina?
i am a professional boxer ad i do not run, runing or amount of running depends on yhour style and strengths and weaknesses, for those that hate running there are some other (better in my mind) alternatives
Which ones? you meal like swimming or biking? I want to mix it up more, because I feel that I run too much and my legs get tired quickly. what alternatives to running do you recommend based on your own experience?
apparently the Klitschkos do not run they swim. David Haye does no road work he only does a series of 100m sprints.
Iv started running on a treadmill now which i hate but it is better for my joints. To keep it intereting i do different times eg 60 mins , 45 mins 30 mins on different nights, throw in some hills in the middle ( uping the the incline) throw in some speed variations ( eg on a half hour run ill do the first 10 at a normal running pace then the next 10 mins faster then the last 10 back to normal. Or ill throw in 3 min sprints . I always as a rule sprint the last 3 mins of every run. It just keeps it interesting and iv noted deffinate improvements in my stamina and fitness
:-( I think you are mistaken. Wlad does alot of track work - running - and he enjoys swimming also David Haye I have seen video footage of him running up steep hills on a long distance run Haye done 100 metre sprint - 100 times over - in a test of fitness in the training for the Enzo Maccarenelli fight which means he sprinted a total of 10 K in one session which is very tough feat of physical endurance However while Haye does alot of sprint work - there is nothing to sugest he does not do normal road work - as I have seen him doing it
firstly, what is your weakness, the calves, the quads? what is lacking? do you get lactic acid build up quickly? thew more specific ou can be with the problem the more accurate i can recommend some advice, but when it comes to anaerobic running, the best for boxing and fat burning, i recommend trying some of holyfields 3 minute drills (http://www.sportsci.org/news/news9709/hatfield.html) or doing footwork drills for 3 minute rounds, when i fought ed mahone i had a plan to move alot, so id put some funky music on and do rounds at the end of every session moving non stop, during that fight the commentator said i looked like i was on dancing with the stars so it worked (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVmxtD1s3Ak)
wow man, you got quick hands for a big dude! my main problem is that my legs get tired and its hard to keep them bent after a couple of 3 minute rounds. to move well i need to make sure my knees are always bent, otherwise i can only move straight back holyfield's workout looks pretty cool, I like the 3-minute drills, i have never tried repeating everything backwards
give them a go, and nothing beats doing what you suck at to get results, mimic the movement you make for sets of a certain time, thanks for the compliment re hand speed
