Because Lennox was clearly embarrassed and defensive when questioned about his fight with Vitali, and retired rather then give the rematch he promised in the ring. Also, Vitali has been at or near the top of the division much longer than Lennox was. This makes Lennox fans furious, and leads them to constant "TKO6" posts and trash talk, while always refusing to give Vitali any credit for the tough fight he gave Lennox. The pure hatred most Britards have for Vitali is the best measure of how great the elder Klitschko really is:deal

 

and the funny thing is that LL is not even British. He's Jamaican/Canadian.

 

What about British fans who don't even dislike Vitali,and recognise him as the second best heavyweight of the century so far?
The ones who acknowledge that even though he was very badly beaten in the end,he did fight very well and gave Lennox two very tough rounds?
The ones who realise that the only reason Vitali is struggling now is because he's at the very late stage of an excellent career and isn't a shadow of the fighter he was at his peak?

Thats a great point. A point which was clearly illustrated by the fan support that Frank Bruno received in the build up to his fight with Lennox. Before Lewis beat Holyfield, he was loved by no country in particular. After he had snagged the titles, he was then somehow British.This is because of the desperation of British fight fans to cheer for someone who can remain vertical for a little while in a boxing ring.

 

Very good point. I probably shouldnt generalize all British fans like that.

 

Lewis retired before 38. He wanted to fight on, but it became too dangerous.

Great, great fighter... didn't quite get the props he deserved during his heyday, so it's nice to see him finally appreciated.
