this does seem a mini golden period for fighters earning money I dont see it lasting though, mixed martial arts still gets twice the attention now that boxing gets. Canelo and GG are in their 30s as are most of the best welters on Fox also mostly in their 30s. There is also so much politics in boxing now with the different channels not allowing fighters to fight each other it will hurt the sport sooner rather than later as the NFL and NBA dominate American sports media. Crawford and Spence for the American market has to be made, for the good of future of the sport over there, they have to see sense, they are not getting any younger. Fury and Wilder and Joshua have helped sell the sport as they all came around at the same time as heavyweights and are good personalities, but they are well into their 30's now, Fury I think will pack it in this year to do the celebrity circuit in Britain no matter the results, Wilder will be 36 in a year at some point that one punch ko stuff will not work against younger foes. We know the heavyweights lead the sport and I just don't see a Dubois being a marketable fighter worldwide for all his ability, Usyk seems too small , I struggle to see who else. Of the smaller fighters Ryan Garcia, Inoue has the potential to be a cross over star, same with Devin Haney but they need rivals to sell that. I love the sport and the ups and downs are part of it, but I see those youtube fighters getting more and more attention and shows to fill the void sadly with their younger online fans. I just hope it does not get to the point they start taking over cards week to week.
Unless those youtubers quit youtube, dedicate there lives full-time to boxing to achieve greatness, yeah, those fights will eventually dry up and fade away... I wouldn't worry too much about 'em...
When I see how AJ packs stadiums it tells me boxing is soaring somewhere. In America, yes there are issues, but it seems from Whales, England, crossing the seas to Canada, bypassing USA to Mexico boxing is doing well. And when MMA fighters want to make millions? They call out boxers! Horrible politics and all.
Add Japan to the list as well. Boxing is getting quite big over here with a ton of events and newcomers getting in the game! And I agree, I find it weird that, for a sport that's supposively taking over boxing, MMA fighters sure like to call out boxers/get into boxing themselves...
I think interest in MMA is very limited outside the US, certainly in the UK boxing is far bigger than MMA.
No facts or numbers to substantiate your claims. And you say that Fury has been doing well, but if you look at the numbers, then it aint quite so. People talk about him, but they don“t tune in or show up to the fights.
The simplicity of boxing will always be its strength. Basically 2 blokes trying to knock the other one down for more than 10 seconds using his fists . MMA and the links don't have that simple purity. Just my view. That said the boxing organisations seem to be doing their utmost to destroy the sport.
