DAMN Bernard looked good that night.............To this day I still CAN'T watch that fight. THAT Bernard would KILL Calzaghe...
I have avatars turned off cause I'm at work but I am guessing you and I have the same guy in our avatars and I agree. He dominated his weight class and never looked close to being touchable.
On a slightly different tack and to take account of other factors, who do you guys think would have had the longest dominance if ALL the atgs of any particular weight class fought in one time period,eg hagler, monzon, robinson, fitzimmons, greb all around at one time at middle,or leonard, robinson, hearns, napoles etc all together at welter and so on at heavy, fly etc...... My vote goes to duran at lightweight......
Elorde was, indeed fantastic. Top 10 for sure at 130lbs, all time, without question. But, his forays into the lightweight division kind of work against him in this category, in much the same way that Bob Foster's forays into the heavyweight division while he was LH champ work against him, as well. Still...I agree...a very, very underrated fighter who I think would have stayed with any of the other great junior lightweights...and beaten quite a few of them.
I would have to disagree with the choice of Larry Holmes. The thread starter said this: Larry Holmes kept winning, but he looked far from untouchable and had close fights. From 1978-83, Larry: -won a very close fight with Ken Norton -was given hell by Mike Weaver -nearly KO'd by Earnie Shavers -nearly KO'd by Renaldo Snipes -won an extremely close fight with Tim Witherspoon
atsch LARRY always looked pretty beatable ! NORTON SNIPES SHAVERS ect all made him look prety beatable !:bbb
