Heavyweights are going to have the biggest numbers here of course, but does anyone know what fighters from each division have the most freakish' reaches?

Micheal Grant had a 86' inch reach if I'm remembering correctly.

    I think I've seen Paul William's pegged at 81'?

    Unbelievable for a friggin' welterweight.

    Never knew that.

Scary with the kind of jab he had.

As for freakish reach for their weight divisions, Panama Al Brown was a Bantamweight with a reach that was something around 76'.

Supposedly Paul Williams has an 82' inch reach, which is scary when considering Thomas Hearns had a 78' inch reach.

    Henry Akinwande - 86 inches

Vitali Klitschko's reach is 79, but armpit to the end of the fist is 29.5, Wladimir's I saw listed at 81.5, but his armpit to the end of the fist was only 26 inches. Wladimir has much broader shoulders than Vitali, but Vitali has the longer arms.

Hasim Rahman has an 82 inch reach

7'2 Julius Long I saw listed at 90 inches!

Mayweather arm length is 27", Wlad has very short arms for his height, which has its plusses and minuses. On the plus side, he has faster handspeed than most guys his height, and can actually throw combinations. Wlad's hook off the jab is amazing for a big guy. On the downside he can be reached easier than other big guys with longer reach; see the Ray mercer fight where 'ol Ray landed a lot of jabs on him because their reach wasnt too dissimilar.

I personally like what HBO started a few years ago with the armpit to the end of the fist measurement rather than the wingspan across the back from fingertip to fingertip. I think Showtime is still doing it the old way, I cancelled my subscritiption earlier this year so I'm not positive.
The wingspan measurement seemed to vary a lot compared to the armpit to the end of the fist. Here are several examples from my experience watching boxing-

Marvin Hagler - I've seen him listed at 70 and 75 inches

Tim Witherspoon - I've seen him listed from 76 -82 inches

    George Foreman - 78.5-82 inches

    Larry Holmes - 79 and 81

    Ken Norton - 78, 79, 80

Lennox Lewis - before the Holyfield fight he was listed at 82, later he went up to 84

    Andrew Golota - 78 -84

Sonny Liston - 84, but before his fight with Leotis Martin that I have on dvd he was listed at 80.5 in the tale of the tape

    Muhammad Ali - 79 - 83

speaking of Paul Williams and his 82 wingspan, his armpit to the end of the fist is only 25 inches, my wife happened to measure my wingspan 76.5, and my armpit to the end of the fist was 26 1/4, i tend to doubt the 82 wingspan of Williams.

Id be more inclined to doubt the 25inches figure- HBO had him and Margarito as having the same arm length, but that clearly was not the case. Williams just looks like a physical freak.

Williams definitely looks freakish for his weight class. To me he looks closer to 6'3 rather than 6'1.
