Chavez had a 87 fight winning streak..He went something like 89 or 90 without technically losing..Though anyone who has seen the Sweet Pea fight would disagree. Thing about Greb is that he drew 18 or so times..Most them spread out throughout his career. He would get a good streak going but then get a draw, which is bound to happen at some point with the amount of times he fought. Im understanding the question to mean the longest winning streak...as in the most wins in a row. I dont know if Bagwell's record is complete on boxrec but he had a few draws in there aswell breaking up his streaks.
Yeah, Boxrec does not support Bagwell, though it may be missing bouts. Then again, it would have to be missing about 100. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=24150&cat=boxer
Willie Pep went 61 fights before dropping a dec toSammy Angott,he then went another73 fights before losing to Sandy Saddler ,thats two defeats in 5 years.two losses in 136 fights.
As a matter of interest. Morry Jones, the man who broke Hal Bagwells unbeaten streak, wether it was 180 or 80 used to drink in the same pub as me in The Dingle area of Liverpool, mid 1980's. I was a young lad then but he was an old white haired boxing trainer with The Golden Gloves, Liverpool. Just thought I'd share that.
Statistic's wise or time wise? Roy Jones had all of one DQ loss in... 14 years of fighting? Calzaghe's been undefeated for 15 years or so now. Trinidad was undefeated for over 10 years. Hopkin's for 12. John David Jackson had a decade long run as well I believe.
Boxrec is a brilliant resource, but just that. The same as the Ring record book has it down as 180 wins; or Harry Mullan and Bob Mee having him down for 183 unbeaten (page 222; The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Boxing).
Ray Robinson went 40 fights before losing a dec to Lamotta in 1943 ,he was conceding 16 1/2 lbs to the Bull.A Welter fighting a Middle He went a further 91 fights before Turpin caught him unprepared ,with Paris in his legs in 1951.
There are a few ways to measure this one (ie number of fights won in a row, duration in years between defeats etc). Because there are so many padded records about, particularly these days. IMO quality of opponents factors in as well when you look at the merit of winning streaks. IMO the unbeaten runs of people like Carlos Monzon (who went about 67 fights without a loss - yes he had a few draws) and Rocky Marciano (49 straight wins and no losses) easily eclipse the record of someone who might have fought an endless string of nobodies in empty venues for no titles.
