So, based on the fact that Lewis drops his LEFT hand, against a guy who's main KO punch is HIS LEFT, in Round 11, after dominating the guy for the previous 10 rounds - you think Tyson ( a completely different kind of fighter to Tua, except maybe for height) would win.

    Wow.

Based on the Buster Douglas fight, Lewis beats Tyson easy.

    No,

Based on Lewis dropping his hands and letting Briggs hit him on the jaw, I say Tyson wins,

    No,

Based on Bruno landing a straight right on Tyson and stunning him, I say Lewis has a much better right hand than Bruno so hammers Tyson into Bolivia early.

    no...

Tyson's already been knocked out by Lennox (whos older than him anyway), but prime Tyson like when he was knocked out by Buster Douglas might have made it a bit more interesting, but in his prime he struggled to impose vs several big strong heavyweights who absorbed his shots and tied him up. Tucker, Smith etc
Difference is prime Lewis was a way better offensive fighter than them, and probably physically stronger also. Lewis' chin isnt the greatest but he only got hit like once in the whole Tua and Tyson fights.
Lennox would have handled him. Only time I see Lewis having a chance of getting knocked out vs Tyson is pre-McCall.

Tyson struggling with Tucker and especially with Smith must be biggest myth in boxing. I guess you also think that Wladimir struggled with Ibramigov and Lennox with Tua.

Tyson dominated those guys and got easy UD victories.

I take Lewis' win over Tyson like a grain of salt. With that being said, anyone who says "Tyson easily KO's Lewis because... or Lewis beats Tyson everytime because... is either a nuthugger or a hater. It would have been a great scrap to watch both of them in their prime go at it. I'm a huge fan of Tyson, and while I realize how great Lewis was, I'm not a fan too much of his. But I think it's a 50/50 fight.

Thread title says TYSON not Tua.

prime for Prime Tyson would stop Lewis in the 4th round. lewis was absolutely solid and good defensively after the McCall loss; let's assume he's in the shape of the 2nd Rahman fight rather than the 1st. He still gets stopped IMO

Cut the bs, ya he was older but we all know who was ****ing shot to **** and who wasn't. Tyson wasn't 10% of what he once was. Don't even try to make that fight something that it wasn't. That fight meant absolutely nothing. Lennox is a fool for thinking he proved something by winning that fight. He's goes around talking about how he's better than Mike Tyson, when he fought him while he was shot to ****. He even sued to try to get a rematch.

Lennox knows and everyone else knows Mike at his best would have killed him. Lennox is the post Mike Tyson era champ, that's all.

Tyson wasn't shot to **** in 96 in which that year Lewis wanted to fight Tyson and Lewis was the mandatory challenger to Tyson title but Tyson refuse instead Tyson fought bum Seldon after Tyson vacated the wbc heavyweight title belt.

Lewis vacated the IBF and WBA titles and avoided Chis Byrd and Jon Ruiz. What does that say.

Bottom line is Lewis beat Tyson at his absolute worst. Everybody, including him knows it. Tyson would have whooped him in his prime. Lewis knows that. All of those champions in the 90's were just lucky Tyson was over the hill. Tyson will be always been remembered as the greater fighter than Lewis. Most people won't even remember Lewis. He was just a good fighter who came along when Tyson was in jail.

I think your mistaken there, alot of the guys in the classic forum have Lewis as one of the top five heavyweights ever, they make a good argument for him. Tyson caused his own problems imo the only thing he'll be remembered for are his crazy outbursts and controversial life. Im not arguing Tyson wouldnt have beaten Lewis but I think your underestimating just how respected Lewis is by some boxing purists.

He's def well respected on ESB. I think he's overrated around here, but I'm not saying he wasn't a good fighter. I just don't like how we pursued a fight with Mike when he knew Tyson was totally shot, and then even tried to get a rematch.

I think he was a very good fighter in his era. I can't mention his name with other ATG's though.

I don't agree. Look at the Tyson - Williams fight (which happened after the so-called totally shot Tyson was pummeled by Lewis) ... Mike had a good 2-3 rounds, he got lots of shots in and was worked well for 2-3 rounds. Watch the fight again on YouTube. The HBO guys were all over Mike for the first half of the fight:

"Freddy Roach did a great job, just look at the headmovement and Mike's footwork" ... "Danny Williams is looking to trade with Mike Tyson, he's fighting the wrong fight here" ... "Mike is unloading combinations all over Williams, amazing left hooks" etc. etc.

Tyson's problem in the Lewis fight is that Lewis completely neutralized Tyson's offensive and grabbed and leaned on him until Mike got tired. Tyson had no recipe against that. Tyson wasn't half as shot as people make it out to be in hindsight, that's just how Tyson always was once he came out of the joint. Once you grabbed him on the inside and jab him from the outside he didn't know what to do. And even against Williams.. After Danny took Tysons best shots he simply knocked Tyson out in the 4th.

The late Tyson wasn't better/worse than the version that fought Bruno II/Seldon/Holyfield in the 90s.

Once you frustrate Tyson by neutralizing his close quarters attacks he became helpless very quickly.

Who in the gods green earth wanted to see Lewis vs Bryd, Lewis vs Ruiz? Alot of people wanted to see Lewis vs Tyson in 96 but i guess Tyson didn't have faith in beating Lewis in which Tyson instead fought a bum Seldon. So you going to tell me many people rather see Tyson vs Seldon then Tyson vs Lewis?
