Honest to god, I had no idea any Japanese fighter existed that was any higher than a feather weight.

If there would be a 160lbs Japanese.. It would be a sumo wrestler not a MW boxer.

    He's undefeated...big punching record...crap opposition...the next Prescott?!

Let's give the guy a chance. Any unknown opposition bringing an undefeated record deserves respect. You never quite know how good they are going to be, even if we are cynical and expect the worst.

Koji Sato is a good fighter. This guy can bang. He'll give Sturm a tough time but isn't probably developed enough to win a world title at this stage. A worthy top 20 contender.

a worthy top 20 contender? too bad you need to be in the top 10 to get a shot...the guy has had 14 fights and noe against anyone in the top 20, so how the hell is he worthy again? another joke by sturm. the WBA is a worthless organization. being a japanese middleweight champ is like being the niciest guy in prison...WHAT AN HONOR ANDBIG DEAL

    :patsch

Dident the Nips have a genuine Middleweight champ a few back, had to retire after winning he title or a fight later due to bad eye injury??? I remember then have a decent lightheavy about 15 years ago too,a real banger.

I have never seen Sato fight in a ring, neither live nor on tv.
But lets take into account that STurm's management is a smart one which had watched some tapes of Sato's fights before they signed the contract with him. A fight with STurm's stable mate Carrera could have easily been staged, but Sturm obviously didnt want to take the risk and encounter a capable and dangerous foe in a non-mandatory fight.
I bet my house that Sturm and his management had quite a few options. They opted for Sato which tells me a lot.
I will root for the unknown Jap! Sturm lives on borrowed time.He will soon find his match!

Thanks Ishy. Based solely on this video, I'll guess that he gets overwhelmed by Sturm's handspeed. Doesn't look like anything special though. Decent power, horrible movement, very slow overall. He was something like an 8 time amateur Japanese champ, so I would have expected his fundamentals to be better than that, but it looks like he's just there to be hit.

Thats why Sturm's management opted for Sato instead of staging a fight with Sturm's stable mate Carerra.

This guy is so incredibly flawed it's ridiculous, look at the way he throws those hooks almost winging from the hip and arm punching. Kinda reminds he of Charlie Z. The very fact that Sturm is even taking on this guy tells you everything you need to know about him.
