I hate to argue with you, man, because we're both Cotto dudes and because you seem like a generally knowledgeable dude. But your assertion here verges on ridiculous. To say that he has gone backwards since DLH is crazy. Even in a reality where Pac decreased his head movement, the addition of an elite right hand, the massive improvement in ring generalship, the uppercut, and the refinement of his movement have all been huge.

Actually, man.. his uppercut's one of his hardest punches during his 112-126 days.

He hit Fashang 3K battery so hard with a left uppercut that it almost looked like he got lifted off the canvas a couple of inches. That was 2004.

And Thai boxer, Rakkiatgym got nailed with a barrage of short uppercuts and was dropped 4 times in the first round and got TKO'd back in the early 2000s.

And his first ever boxing belt, back in 1997, a regional, asia-pacific titlr, was won via a short uppercut KO to Thai champ Chokvivat's forehead. Completely messed up the guy's equilibrium for a few minutes.

I'd agree. Pacquiao hasn't always consistently used the uppercut, but he's been good with it when he has. In particular, he used it beautifully against Diaz.

I find a sense of relief knowing that 20 out of your 36 champions have lost to Mexicans.

While only about 8 of our 136 champions have lost to pinoys.

barrera - noticed his speed. yes i have watched many of his fight then but that's the first time i noticed that he was so damn fast. maybe the move up to 126 has its effect on his energy level.

larios/morales3 - noticed the used of his right hand more. and is trying to box more instead of pure aggression like in his 1st fight with MAB, JMM and EM.

barrera2 - noticed the use of patience and timing. would not let barrera any chance of countering him.

jmm2 - noticed the improvement of his defense and boxing skills. even if it was a hard fight for him and his right hand was offset, i noticed that most of jmm's punches were blocked by pac's high guard and was forced to fight jmm's style (box and counterpunch) and pulled a hard-earned close win.

diaz/oscar - the ability to retain his speed at the higher weights and seemed comfortable enough with his right hand even more.

hatton - he shows that he has brought his power up in the higher weigths and used both hands to put down his opponent.

cotto - shows that he can take a blow from a welter and shown that he has as much as power in his right hand as his left. also shows his ring generalship.

Having to keep count of and compare the number of champions from a nation or ethnicity is a pretty sad way of trying to prop up your ego.

I'm proud of both my Italian and Irish heritage, but I don't keep an active count of the number of champions with those ancestries, or have to bring that in to run down someone from a different country. I also don't say "Well the US is better than your country because of this, so **** you" especially in a topic where that's totally irrelevant to what's being discussed.

Doing that, and wearing blinders to the quality of any fighter not from your country/of your heritage makes you a sad sack, in my opinion.

IMO he's been the same fighter since the JMM rematch, maybe including the Barrera win.

He's extremely effective, but that's because he has a great chin and some good power. He can handle his opponent's power at these higher weights, while they CAN'T handle his speed. It was an educated decision to fight at these higher weight classes...it's actually an advantage to Pac.
