Making 175 was not likely going to happen. He was 32 years old and hadn't been at that weight in three years. Trying to get back down there would have killed him. Cruiserweight might have been doable, but there was no money to be made for it to be worth the effort. Meanwhile, the heavyweight division was on the verge of getting hot again. Evander Holyfield had moved up, Tyson was in his prime and a fresh crop of young Olympians were just released into the pros. Heavyweights were getting increasingly larger with each passing year.. Spinks had sealed his legacy, became a very rich man, and was a single parent raising a young child and with no interest in the fight game anymore... He made the right choice.

actually, Holmes was over the hill since 1983. I had him losing to Carl Williams earlier in 85 but nevertheless, losing to Spinks was still something of an upset

guys like Spinks, Leonard look good against this type of diseased fighter (Spinks was actually the more proven of the two) but they dont seem to hold their value as well when pushed hard by young up n comers (Norris N Mike Tyson) and hence suffer terrible losses in those situations

Elton doesn't do a very good job in masking his bitterness, does he? Still hasn't gotten over Mr Spinks calling out Brockton's finest mental midget from back in the day it seems.

Lots of misplaced adjectives "alarm by mother natures curse" animal red male chicken man. Where do you see Spinks as more proven? Have you taken your antipsychotics today? Are you referring to The Olympics ? Spinks place in boxing royalty was solidified by subjective opinions in his first win vs Holmes bc he sure as hell didn't win the second . Stop defending and making excuses for The assassin when you know even when he was over the hill(in your only defensive opinion thAt kinda makes sense ) I give credit to Spinks in his first win against Holmes bc he deserved it. Maybe Larry pencilled himself a W before the the fight . Larry wasn't ****ing around in the first(besides previous purchases ) or second fight. He looked physically Ready for both and don't get me wrong I think the world of Spinks for stepping up in weight and fighting a Lion that had been King of the pride . Or maybe I'm a dumb fight fan who can't realize timing and the ability to catch lightning in a bottle when it presents itself .

No, it was a reference to Hagler, who actively called out fighters from lower weight classes while avoiding even entertaining the idea of fighting someone from a higher weight class himself.
