Looking at Ruiz's record, he hasn't faced a quick, extremely hard puncher since....

...March 1996. Miraculously, he's managed to go all of this time mostly avoiding big hitters entirely. Slow as molasses, long past prime iterations of Golota and Rahman represent the heaviest hitters on his record post '96, and you practically have to walk into their shots with your eyes closed to feel their power. He was floored twice by Golota.

David Haye is his next opponent. Anyone thinking what I'm thinking? :hey

Yeah Haye fever has his this forum bigtime, just shows what someone with a personality can do, forget the skills, which are average. He has some talent but hes no master boxer.
Ruiz has a great chance of smothering Haye, outboxing and even stopping him. Almost a pick-em this fight, unless Ruiz has aged, havent seen him for a while.

I don't think Chagaev is a big hitter. 17 KOs from 25 wins - with every stoppage being against shoddy opposition - suggests that he is rather light of fist. And Jones was of course incredibly fast...but he didn't have big KO power at LHW, let alone higher.

I completely agree that Ruiz is an incredibly crafty fighter. Incredibly dirty, but crafty all the same. It just occured to me that this will be the first real 'chin breaker' with a fast power punch since Tua and that is interesting.

I have to agree that there is a very good chance of Ruiz possibly getting KO'ed. If it does not happen, Haye is in a world of ****.

    But he cannot punch.

A quick power puncher. A quick power puncher. He hasn't fought one of them since you know who.

Seriously, who are all these 'quick power punchers' that have been in the HW division in that timeframe that Ruiz was supposed to fight? :think

Ruiz looked like **** against Serin. Maybe he will go back to his clinching ways against Haye in which case Haye may be in some trouble. Ruiz while boring as hell when he fights like that is tough to convincingly beat

you dont have to have this "haye fever" you speak of to know ruiz is gonna get blasted out by haye within 5 rounds. i like to give some fighters the benefit of the doubt, but get real people. ruiz is far past his best, and if anything he never really had a "best". there are other HW's out there that can beat haye, ruiz is far from being one of them.

It's kinda true this threat title, but only because of the lack of smaller fast and powerful heavyweights over the last few years.

It's not like the division is running wild with Mike Tyson's and Joe Fraziers.

he fought Jones and looked slow and ****, like everyone else who Jones had faced back then. He fought a decent version of Holyfield too, aged 37 just coming off a good performance versus Lennox Lewis, **** was that nearly 10 years ago now? Holyfield was never Haye fast, but compared a lot of the guys out there he's not bad.

Haye will probably try and bomb Ruiz out of there. Ruiz is the sort of experienced veteran who can steal 12 rounds against anyone. Dirty tactics, clinching, the sort of **** that can take someone like Haye right off his gameplan.

Ruiz chin isn't that bad, but I really don't think he's gonna know what to do when he gets caught by that Haye onslaught. Potentially a great fight.

How many quick, extremely hard punchers has the heavyweight division seen since 1996?

Ruikz usually doesn't get schooled when he fights something other than former MWs but I think he gets stopped and ended by Haye.
