    Folks,

Who thinks "Holy-Moorer 1 & 2" were either classic affairs or dull encounters? Believe it or not, I've been told both...

Fight # 1 in 1994 saw the death of Richard M. Nixon and Michael Moorer being too passive in the ring, and getting dropped early by champion Holyfield in round 2, to get up and roar back to pummel an apparent hurting Evander Holyfield after the 5th round to earn the decision and take the IBF and WBA titles home.... Moorer becomes first southpaw legit heavyweight champion.....

Come the 1997 rematch, much had changed between the two men... Moorer had become known as chinny and lazy in training with weight issues, while Holy was thought to be slipping by age 35 and injury prone more so than ever before....

What occurred in fight # 2 was more than I ever dreamed possible in 1997 from Holy and Moorer... Both guys came to fight, but Holy looked physically much more fit than the hefty 224 pound Michael Moorer did.... Moorer proved tuff, but also, easy as hell to hit and drop..... Holy bounced Moorer off the floor 5 X in obtaining a 9th round TKO stoppage win to retain his WBA title......

The 1997 TKO over Moorer was prolly the LAST time Holy would ever appear awesome on the world class level.......

    Any thought?

I have not seen either fight in a while, but I do remember thinking during the first fight that Holyfield looked very lethargic. Only later did we all find out about his medical condition. The rematch went pretty much the way I thought the first fight was going to unfold.

The first fight sucked. Michael Moorer was the only one who believed he actually won the fight and somehow he did??? Teddy Atlas was too embarrassed to share Moorers excitement after the decision was read because he didnt think they won either.
The second fight was exciting, wouldnt call it a classic, but more from what I expected from Holyfield against Moorer.
Moorer was a good technician, he could be sneaky with his right jab and righthook off of counters, but he was always planted in post holes when he threw his shots as a heavyweight, so he was easy to hit and never had a heavyweight chin.

But too easy to hit. He shouldn't have slugged with Foreman like that or he might've won.

Foreman and myself both felt Holy could've easily gotten the nod in 1994. Moorer's title win over Holy was less than thrilling......

True about # 2.... It was much more exciting.......

**** no. Holyfield was ****ing ruined in both (including the second), and the first was an absolute snooze-fest.

I don't think so. I think he relied on his power more than anything, and was clearly up and down with his energy levels and lacking sharpness in the early rounds. He took quite a while to finish Moorer off as well. I know that sounds pedantic, but it certainly wasn't the primed out Holyfield that tore apart contenders from '88-90.

I think he was. He was coming off a huge win with Tyson. He was pretty sharp and put his punches together well. He did get nailed by Moorer early, but maybe he was a little cocky in the opening stages. I think if anything your underestimating Moorer. He was a crafty southpaw with good countering abilities, and Evander needed to put pressure on Moorer this time rather than lay back and get countered like he did in the first fight. Sure Holy wasnt in his prime, but he fought a good fight.

Holy was 214 for Moorer in 1994 as was Moorer's weight, too....... But come the rematch in 1997, Moorer was a rotund 224 pounds while Holy returned back in at his 214 pounds........

I thought Moorer at 214 pounds in 1994 looked the best condition ever as a heavyweight....... That 224 three yrs later was all in Moorer's girth.....

Friggin' Moorer would finish up his career fighting at 251 and 247 pounds... Jesus.......

I think he was good. he was putting punches together well and floored him like 5 times. if that's not a good classic preformance, what is?
also, so what if he wasn't sharp in the opening rounds, some people are late starters. Yeah he relied on his power but Holyfield didn't have a lot of power to begin with so I think that's okay. besides he never gets to play the role of te puncher.

I haven't seen both fights in awhile I'll rewatch them and give feedback soon. Moorer was a pretty good fighter in his day and a wish there were more fights of his up on youtube. Holyfield, well my Dad has most of his fights because he used to be a big Holy fan(still is a fan but I don't think as big of one) so I shouldn't have a hard time looking at Holy's career especially in his prime.

micheal just slowed down enough for Holy to take. Holy's NEVER been able to fend off a young hot up and coming star. he was trounced by Bowe in fight one and embarassed by Micheal. was decisvely beaten by lewis but somehow earned a draw
