I'd agree if ricky ko'd him or something lol he didn't come back from the brink of defeat.. the other guy ran out of steam and the fact he hadn't got ricky outta there killed him.. i mean he would of won so easy could of just relaxed and boxed the last few rounds and won easy really. Fair play though, ricky got the win and thats what counts.
just looking at beltrans record on boxrec and i,m wondering how to **** he even got a title shot.burns by ko.
It was the British lionheart in Ricky that won the fight, the other mug did'nt want to know when Ricky was'nt falling to his haymakers. The guy might win a world title but he will never fight a Brit again, he knows what he will get!
I thought I was watching the best lightweight in the world up until he quit, he was taking Burns to school. Couldn't believe it when he chucked it As a Burns fan that worried me about how he would deal with the style of Vasquez and Abril should he ever fight them.
That's fair enough Billy. I know he had a nightmare with all the fights being cancelled and tbh Gonzales was proabably the worst opponent after the build up for Ricky to have. I'm not entirely sold that he was just over trained, Gonzales showed he was the superior boxer, by far, but hopefully Ricky has learned from the fight. Either way good luck tonight Billy, I hold high hopes for Ricky, he seems a top lad and hopefully he gets a big one if he can get past Beltran. Which I'm sure he will. War Burns!!
Looks like he's retired, an article on the scene said he hasn't been in the gym and he's been coming out with quotes saying he's not sure about his future and that he wants to spend more time with his family and less in the gym etc. So what was it that really broke? his wrist, or his heart? Ricky might have retired the guy ffs
Matty is back boxing on the 16th November after surgery to his elbow in a show in Aberdeen but we are hoping to maybe get him out before then.
maybe you should watch the guy fight instead of just going by boxrec I first saw Beltran when he fought Bogere, he won that fight for sure in my eyes, but got robbed, so theres one thing boxrec won't tell you One thing we have to remember is that this will be only Rickys second fight in a year, the Mitchell fight was last september, and since then Ricky had to go through 2 full training camps only for the fights to be pulled at the last minute, it was no surprise that Ricky was going to perhaps look out of sorts against Gonzalez, especially considering how awkward Gonzalez is for a start, so let's just see how he does tonight.
Billy please dont play the English card its getting a bit too old , to me Ricky took Gonzalez too a place hed never been, and say he did break his wrist his heart was not in it for sure as theres many who have gone on too the end despite injury and this was his so called dream but he decided to pack up..wrong mentallity
Was also very impressed with gonzales in the fight, looked like a very classy fighter. Dont understand him quitting on the stool at all though, assuming it was a wrist injury he could of boxed with one hand or even just running away for the remaining rounds and he might of still got a points win. Wouldnt of looked very good but surely better than quitting while sat on your arse.
Gonzales is talented but to date he lacks the fundamentals outside and inside the ring. Outside, he didn't work hard enough to be prepared for a world title fight and inside the ring he lacked the fortitude to handle the pace and tenacity of Burns. If he is just physically talented then he should take up a sport that leans more towards physical talent then physical and mental. I suggest 100m running, weight lifting, snooker etc The talent is there but more application is needed. Burns has become increasingly aggressive and this fight was a wake up call that even though his work on the front foot has improved extensively, he must always have a plan a (box), plan b (front foot), etc
