Lewis beat a past prime Tyson an a past prime Holyfield, Vitali had his shot at a past prime Lewis but he failed to make it past the mid-rounds.

Tyson needed Lewis just as much as Lewis needed Tyson (for the big Payday). But remember, Lennox was the TRUE CHAMP at the time so the only thing he blew at the time was a big payday against Tyson by having to rematch Oliver. Tyson knew he was past it at the time and only wanted to cash-out a Lennox

Kind of like Lewis ducked Byrd to fight an established all time great in Kirk Johnson for much more money.

Lennox was the man at the time, yeah Mccall ****ed up the chance at some mega bouts . . . but Lennox came back and won his place back. Bowe didn't want nothing to do with Lennox, Tyson knew his career was over and was looking for a payday, Holyfield at the time would have been nice but that fight would happen eventually.

In my mind lennox lost nothing Because he was the champ and went on to beat 2 of those 3 for those big paydays. Lennox was thinking about retirement when the bros got in a spot to challenge him again.

 

Why are people acting like Holyfield, Tyson, and Bowe went undefeated in the 90s and Lewis was the only one to suffer a setback? Bowe had a very short window to fight Lewis and he didn't want to, then Lewis lost and it gave Bowe even more of an excuse to not go after the fight.

Wow, breathtaking stupidity. Too much braindead bs to even describe, from this poster and those who commented afterwards. That said, Lewis would have probably beat Wlad in 2003, 50/50/ would have decisioned Vitali in 2000, so in that respect, despite the oodles of nonsense, the main point is actually possibly legitimate. Had Lewis had a clean victory over either K would have increased his ATG ranking to an undisputable top 5, I'd have him at #3.

 

Lewis never fought southpaws and both Sanders and Byrd were something different stylewise than what Lewis fought.

That's not to say that Lennox would've won or lost; we just don't have an accurate way of knowing either way since there's no template of how he'd do against fighters with similar attributes.

 

Lewis did get a fight with Vitali and was given an opportunity afterward to redeem his reputation and manhood, but thought "Please don't make me fight that scary Ukrainian man another time. Thankfully, I managed to open his cut with my laces and get the fight stopped but I don't want him to bash me up again. Please protect me otherwise he might knock me out with a single punch as those guys who beat me did - not Ray Mercer, the other guys who beat me.":yep

Ps. Lewis and Sanders were quite close. I'm sure they exchanged stories on their losses to Rahman - you know, the guy Wlad beat with ease.
