Looking back, Ricky Hatton should have avoided Mr. Floyd Joy Sinclair at all costs

Hatton was a decent but far from great fighter, (he had good footwork/speed for a brawler). He fouled a great, past his prime fighter into retirement; beat a long list of B level fighters; and lost the two elite fighters near their primes. He also lost in his comeback and also arguably lost to Collazo.

All in all, a good fighter but nothing really special: a brawler with good footwork/speed with porous defense and one gear.

Hatton wasnt even a real 147 fighter and he gave the so called best fighter ever massive trouble for 6 rounds.

    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/06/10/10/hatton-now-also-claims-pacquiao-may-be-drugs

    Excerpt:

MANILA, Philippines – A year after his stunning 2nd round loss to Manny Pacquiao, British boxer Ricky Hatton has voiced suspicion that the Filipino champion may be using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

Hatton, who has stayed away from boxing since getting knocked out by Pacquiao, said he should have made the same blood testing demand as Floyd Mayweather Jr., whose fight against Pacquiao fell through last year.

“I could have had those rules, but I wasn’t bothered,” Hatton said in a report posted on UAE news website The National. “Maybe in hindsight, I should have done.”

I wouldn't say "massive." He for sure won a couple rounds but by no means ever had Floyd in trouble. I'd say Floyd looked surprisingly comfortable considering Hatton's strong-arm grappling tactics and inside game. Floyd fought Hatton's fight 100% and ended it inside the distance.

Hatton was never going to win this fight. But what you have to love about Hatton is that he will not go to his grave wondering "what if?". He took his chances against the very best because he wanted to be the very best (much like Lennox Lewis). His comeback also reveals a man who wanted to know, not wonder, what else he had. He wasn't the greatest, but he was a quality fighter with a ton of heart.

Whats the point in this thread? Hatton should have ducked Mayweather rather than challenge himself against the number 1 man in the world?

Hatton was undefeated and had cleaned up his division. He now wanted to be number 1 in the world so faced the best and came up short. Would you rather no fighter ever fought Floyd because they could never win? Im sure in Hatton's mind, he was going to leave Vegas victorious.

At 140, Ricky's so called best weight, he did avoid Floyd. That Floyd-Gatti fight had both Ricky and Cotto saying f-ck that get me Vivian Harris!

Yeah so Ricky thought.. I know I'll avoid Floyd at 140, the weight division I've been so dominant at, wait 2 years and fight him at a heavier weight? :patsch

So you're saying one of his top 5 or 6 wins was crap? Think about what you're saying MVC! You're devaluing floyds legal with this kind of talk.

Well, he was also fighting the ref too. Hatton is not as good as Calzaghe. Calzaghe beat Hopkins, the ref, and all three judges. Hatton couldn't.
