Looking back, when that fight happened were any of you surprised at how Glen Johnson controlled that fight?

I think the fact that Johnson was up on the cards(and up even higher on Lederman's card than the actual scorecards) gets lost on the fact that he brutally knocked Jones out.

It seemed from the opening bell he just backed Jones up, were you guys surprised?

The question is, who wasn't surprised by Johnson's performance and KO victory? I didn't expect Jones to lose, let alone lose by KO in such a devastating fashion by a fighter not even known as a puncher.

True, I started a thread earlier in the day where I asked where Jones' fights stopped effecting his legacy one way or the other and since a few responded with after he won the HW title I figured there was some revisionist history.

I just couldn't believe he was on his backfoot from the opening bell.

Roy fought scared, Johnson came out and jumped all over him but Roy didn't make him pay, he beat Johnson up in the 3rd round but later went back to being gun-shy. Tarver ruined Jones mentally, very similar to what happened to Judah after Zoo, both were never the same and could be bullied from that point forward.

IMO after this fight, it was clear that Roy didn't have it anymore.

I thought Roy would win before the fight, but after a couple rounds I knew Roy was froze up from the Tarver KO, and fought way too soon. He wasn't in very good shape either, he was sucking wind pretty quick.

I wasn't that surprised by the time the KO came, I think Johnson had Roy rocked once or twice before that as well. You can only stand and take a beating for so long, before it accumulates on you.

I agree, even though Roy looked physically different to me in both Tarver fights, I was still kind of hanging on to the fact that maybe Tarver just caught him with a lucky punch, Glen Johnson made me realize luck had nothing to do with it... Roy had slowed just a little bit, enough to let a man studying him for years hit a home run.

After the Tarver K.O Roys shield of invicibility was shattered. Johnson bum rushed Jones, and Roy was shocked. He showed Roy absolutely no respect, and no other figher had done that besides Tarver. I absolutely hated to see RJ get his ass whipped from one side of the ring to the other.

After the Tarver fight, Roy became a guy who was constantly in fear of the knockout. That being said, I still felt like he would box circles around Johnson...

I watched the fight at the Pool Hall. We were all just shaking our heads.

    Very well said.

Jones lost his heart after the 2nd Tarver fight. He just wasn't the same after that.
