Oscar was the one that gave Floyd the toughest fight then Hatton. Cotto well maybe, but I think Cotto would also lose in similar fashion to Hatton.

im not sure how the cotto fight would go.

i would love to have seen it so we didnt have to guess, but im gonna say much like the baldomir fight with floyd fighting defensively all night and picking his way to victory.

Castillo gave Floyd his toughest fight in my book. Oscar had a few decent rounds though.

Thats why Floyd fought Hatton instead of Cotto. He figured it would be an easier fight, and it was.
Hatton's the perfect style for Floyd, rushing in. Cotto was more of a mover, not to mention bigger and stronger.
Whoever Floyd should fight, he always fights someone else. Floyd should have fought Margarito, took on DelaHoya instead. He fought Hatton instead of Cotto, and Mosely instead of Pacquaio.
    Floyd sucks.

I agree Hatton had faster feet to cut off the ring to stay on his fighter, he was a good swarmer, he was the size of a featherweight but alot of heart and fight in him and did fight with alot of urgency. Cotto, on the other hand, was also originally a brawler like Hatton, but he was patient and liked to take his time, he never fought with much urgency. He liked to walk down his opponent, make them throw, and look for openings.

He liked to place his punches well. His speed is also alittle underrated he did outbox Mosley and you need to have some speed to beat a fighter like Mosley. I think Hatton does have the style to contrast and actually give Floyd alot of problems, but Hatton was not that fighter. Someone with a larger frame, abit more physically bigger and stronger and a good chin with Hatton's style would be successful. Floyd is a thinking fighter, while Hatton wouldn't give time to think he just went with the flow. Hatton was just too limited in skills especially defensively and didn't respect Floyd's power and he paid for it. Pre Margo Cotto had the perfect style to beat Floyd.

Cotto's slow, methodical footwork would of been an issue in a fight with Floyd, as Floyd has really good legs, that said, Cotto is more refined than a Hatton, he also has a jab, and IMO, its not slow like others have suggested, infact I think that is pretty evident in the Mosley fight. What Cotto does have, is a patient style to, what I believe is the necessary ability against Mayweather, to apply a momentum of pressure, not walk in throwing lots punches and trying to pressure that way, but to methodically, consistently build a momentum of pressure that might make Floyd feel a little comfortable, that said, Cotto had too many balance issues back then, and Floyd's footspeed was way too much for him, that said, I do think there is an element of, Cotto could kinda do what Castillo did, Box and pressure enough to make it a relatively competitive fight, albeit I see him losing.

Hatton didn't really succeed in anything aside from bringing more offense of Floyd, not because of the success he was having, purely because he came foward so quickly.

I didnt watch that fight but I am going by recent memory and I think de la hoya gave him da toughest fight. Hatton did, but it all went pear shape in the 10 th rnd.Shane definitely rocked him 2x.These fighters are a level or two higher than castillo who is a good boxer.Floyd is getting tested as he moves up the qty ladder in my analysis.

    :D

What a joke some of you are.

Hatton was viewed as the tougher fight for Floyd when the fight was made. People were going around saying Mayweather ducked Hatton for years too.

Blind Mayweather haters just move on to the next fighter after Floyd beats up the guy they were accusing him of ducking months earlier. Same with Mosley

    Sad.
