Larry Holmes did have some great quotes about Jeff 'Candy Slim' Merritt.

'He liked to go to wakes at funeral parlors, and tell the family members that their

Of course, these were random vistits, and 'Candy Slim' didn't know anyone.
At 6' 5" and 225 lbs.,,,,who would argue with him.

 

The only quote I've heard is the one tommygun referred to. I can't even imagine Holmes being complimentary about a fellow ATG heavyweight.

yes, holmes was a jealous ****. he think that himself is the greatest, what a joke. the greatest would not fight wars against tim witherspoon, weaver,snipes, he would not lose against michael spinks in 1985. and the greatest IN HIS PRIME would not fight a war against a past pirme ken norton.

 

Larry Holmes is easily inside the top ten heavyweights of all time, it is not a big stretch for some to rate him at the pinnacle ,imo.

yes, he said this **** in the documentary "facing ali", i know that holmes was a good fighter but i can´t support this idiot.
he was joking about foreman,he said that george was a brute with no skill, he said that he would beat tyson, prime vs prme.he said that himself was the greatest. i would love to see a prime frazier destroying his ass.

 

The reasons being Ali was coming off 3 plus years of inactivity and 71 Frazier being a far better fighter than anyone Holmes ever beat

No, Larry didn't dominate every fighter he defended against, but he held on to the title a lot longer than some other ATG's did. Not bad, considering prime George Foreman only made 2 successful defenses!!! :hey

 

prime foreman destroyed prime norton and 29 years old undefeated joe frazier, and he lost his belt because he faced ali the greatest of all time, holmes did beat old men, average fighters and buckets of garbage, simple. foreman would absolutely destroy spoon, berbick,snipes,weaver,cooney(and he did),spinks,shavers,norton(foreman destroyed prime norton, prime larry fought a war against past prime kenny).. foreman would ko any rival of prime holmes. and holmes would lose his belt against frazier, ali74 or even prime norton would have his chance.
