'in this corner' is an obvious answer.

here's a book i got for my 40th...its made up of full page boxing articles that appeared in british newspapers between 1910 and 2010......thats all it is, copies of original newspaper articles....but its fascinating...

here's an example from it...read this....a LOT different than a report would sound today...

Try "The Soul of Boxing", it's a strange one, but offers a unique look at the sport.

Mostly a philosophical look at how fighters rationalise and confront the serious injury and death they risk for themselves and their opponents. Contains detailed accounts of Eubank/Watson, Benn/McClellan, Frank Bruno's heavy depression, Holyfield's failing health from hepatitis and the Bowe fights, a brief look at Tyson's mental state and stories about his reverence for Sonny Liston.

The 3 best boxing books I have read:

"Ali, His Life and Times" - everything you need to know about the greatest.

"Hands of Stone" - fascinating story about the rise and fall and rise again of Roberto Duran.

"Benny" -Superb book about the great Scottish Flyweight Champ Benny Lynch.

I have got Iron Mikes new book but not started reading it as I am currently but rather slowly reading the autobiography of the great Diego Maradona...a character amongst sportsmen without doubt.

I really enjoyed "A Flame of Pure Fire" about Jack Dempsey, I got a hard cover copy of it at B&N for $4.99 on clearance.

    Classic Era boxing books

    Men of Steel
    Facing Ali
    Len Harvey, Prince of Boxers
    the Rochdale Thunderbolt
    Gilroy was here!
looking to get Jersey Joe Walcot's story and Lloyd Marshall's.

I sold over 70 of them and these are the best I've read, yet there are others of course, but not into it as much anymore. But those ones are keepers.

    Corner Men

    by Ronald K. Fried.

The best boxing book I`ve read.

It tells stories of the great trainers and teachers in boxing history not to mention the boxers. The chapters on Arcel and Blackburn are especially good. Stillmen`s Gym as well.

"My View From The Corner" by Angelo Dundee is excellent. Great insights into Ali and Leonard in particular.
