Looking like 2016 was another mediocre year for GGG

Man, as a fan, so frustrating. I'm sure he's ecstatic as he got paid real good money for Wade (2 million) and Brook (5 million plus). Looking like a weak opponent for GGG this Dec with another 1.5 million to 2 million purse.

I couldn't even imagine the frustration tho. GGG is a real talent, top level, hard working and his results show it. But the let down man, first the Canelo fiasco, then the Eubank Jr fiasco, and now Danny Jacobs letdown. Its very possible that the Dec opponent will be Heiland or some other fringe contender. Unless they throw in Andy Lee which would be "OK" however he would be coming in off a long lay off, a loss and a draw.

Looking like GGG will be stalled out until he's 35 and slowing down. As soon as he's looking vulnerable the maggots will come out begging to fight him.

Boxing is indeed a cruel sport. I'm glad the man is being paid well.

History has showed boxing fans this before. His name was Marvin Hagler and he had to go through hell to get a title shot from Vito Antuofermo and was point blank robbed.
Did not get another shot for a title until a year later in which he had to have the U.S. government intervene just to get him that shot from Alan Minter who proclaimed, "No black man is going to take my title". In which he beat him and had **** thrown at him by the British and finally became champion AFTER 50 fights.

After that Hagler fought Duran which would be the equivalent of GGG fighting Pacquiao and got no credit for it and only got credit after Hearns moved up to fight him in 1985.
GGG is experiencing something that has happened to someone else before. Hagler waited for years until Leonard would fight him JUST LIKE Golovkin is going to wait until Canelo wants to fight him. Hagler waited until 1987 to fight Leonard after begging him for years for the fight and waited until 1990 until Leonard offered him a rematch but he had long retired.

Sounds about right. At least GGG has the option of moving to 168. During Haglers time there was 160 and then 175.Hagler had no business at 175, the same way GGG has no business at 175.

Maybe, but he is stuck and 168 is calling him out. Zurdo, DeGale, and others want to fight him and he knows it won't be the cake walk he has at 160. Honestly GGG is holding out for Canelo because it's all they have to make serious money.
Abel Sanchez is doing the same thing Freddie Roach did for Manny and Tom is playing Bob Arum. You call out this guy, tear down that guy, but fight this guy, and blame it on the one guy you really want to fight.

That's why it's incorrect to call GGG an all time great. Sure, he's a bad man at 160. But the greats moved up and fought bigger men and BEAT them based on their skills

I bet in his day people were saying, "Well you can't get Leonard or Hearns in the ring, so you might as well move up and fight Michael Spinks instead of beating stiffs like Hamsho and Roldan."

Nah, it ain't about moving up. The man's close to greatness at 160. But GGG is managed by idiots (in my opinion) at this point, because at his age, he needs to stay active (3-4 fights per year). Other teams KNOW this, which is why everyone's stalling him out, but Tom "Last Horse Crosses the Line" Loeffler doesn't seem to understand this at all, instead he opts to be the nice guy that gets along with other promoters. That's fine and all, but you are costing your prize fighter his career. At a minimum, GGG should be screaming at Loeffler to land him 'stay busy' fights at a minimum. There is absolutely NO good reason for not fighting someone in December.

Nice highlight tape. Can not fault either man! I'm fan of both!
1979 at Portland Maine have a pix taken in the dressing room of me, Marvin Hagler and Goody the day before match against Jamie Thomas.

Golovkin NICE but..he works against the good of the Sport when man holds a title outside WBO WBC IBF WBA.

The way K2 let Cotto play them was bad but the way Golden Boy is doing them shows Toms inexperience with cold blooded American promoters. I keep thinking just how Haymon and Mayweather would do them if Floyd wanted a GGG fight. He would damn near get nothing.

This. I don't hate Tom, but he's letting fight dates slip away too much lately. Not good for a mid-30's boxer.

Edit: now that I think about it, I think I do hate Tom.

Close to greatness? We have lowered the standard of greatness.

Wrong, boxers have and will always achieve greatness before moving up if at all. Thinking that eating an extra 1k calories a day means you're something more than you were then before is something only brain dead boxing fans believe.

Also all those ATG's that moved up moved to a hot division, not a dead as road kill division that the 168lb division is.
