That's...how rankings work. VK, if I'm not mistaken, had emeritus status so he was able to play that card when he returned. Plus - on his name alone, he was a bigger draw even after the layoff than Briggs ever was while active. Money talks in this business, and popularity sells.
Briggs has done nothing to deserve a title shot and nor has Peter but the guys who should be challenging dont seem to want to so its fair enough if one of these guys gets the fight.I cant belive the **** with Povetkin. He should be taken out of the top 20.
Peter certainly earned his last two shots at a Klitschko a lot more convincingly than this time around, particularly the last one (Toney x2, McCline and Maskaev prior to Vitali; and even Shuford/Williams/Diaz/Sykes prior to his first challenge of Wladimir were superior runs to McGee/Bellamy/Brown/Aguilera since his back to back losses) - but even now Peter is a worthier contender based on recent accomplishment than someone coming off a run of McGee/Pedro/Alexander/Calloway since their last loss.
To help his stamina problem, and avoid the ring walk, (where he'll waste much needed energy), he needs to come out on a flying carpet thing, as that other fighter used to do. If they can find one that can support his pro body builder-sized bulk.
Not to mention that Vitali reited as champion, and didn't have his title taken in the ring, nor had the man been even behind on the cards, much less lose a fight, since the Lewis battle in 2003. Big difference than the Briggs situation.
Briggs has been held back in career by saving his best performanes for press conformances, weigh-ins, and interviews.
Considering the current state and crop of heavies in 2010, Shannon Briggs is well capable of being in line for top contention........ The current top-5 contenders are really just pretenders anyway........ Briggs is in the mix.... MR.BILL:hat
deal This, Prime Briggs was c+ level, this fight is a joke - bad defence by klitschko, on a level with Harrison.
That is a load of crap he is former Linear and WBO heavy weight champ. There are tons of fighters that get title shots with out fighting anyone major and Briggs did fight 4 times this year.
