In which case, I think Guerrero's name is just being thrown out their to read the public's reaction. So far, it's been very negative, in which case Canelo will probably be chosen.

 

I think GBP are looking to make Canelo a cash cow, not sacrifice him to anther for one big night. Especially as the kid ain't ready.

Let's be honest, if Alvarez was to lose to Floyd, it's not exactly gonna' ruin his career is it? He could lose to Mayweather and it'd be brushed off as "he's lost to the best fighter in the world" and "it was a good learning curve".

He could lose to Floyd or Manny and still Golden Boy would make a credible name out of him

 

His career? No. But it might ruin him as a fighter, would be a shocking outclassing!

 

It won't ruin his career, but in the eyes of casual public who have already bought the idea of him being some sort of blessed, golden child, a loss (regardless of who it's against) will damage his brand slightly.

 

True i agree, but most casuals view Floyd and Manny as godlike who cannot be beaten so they'd expect him to lose to them and he could get more respect facing them

There is abosolutly no reason what Pac/Floyd can't go down on the 26th May once the 40,000 seater arena has been put up on the strip which allows us fans a chance to get a ticket. All Floyds got to do is say YES I'LL FIGHT PAC ON THAT DATE!! No need for the MGM which will be a high rollers only fight just like Tyson/Holyfield II was. They'll be no tickets for joe public, it'll be a celeb fest. Floyd don't want any part of pacquiao period.

Hmmm :think, it’s a nice idea, him getting more respect if he loses.

But business-wise, it’s not ideal.

I see Canelo being in a similar position to what Hatton was back in 2007 when he faced Mayweather – backed by a whole nation of casual followers that can’t fathom the thought of him losing because they’ve already committed to the idea of him being untouchable (even in a fight he’s the underdog of). This aura of invincibility will come crashing down if he loses a fight, regardless of who it’s against. He won’t be as cherished. Golden Boy will no longer be able to sell him using the same ploy. Some cynical fans will even turn their backs on him. That’s just the way boxing works sadly, and if Golden Boy can avoid it, then they will.

But with that said, I still can't imagine Floyd picking Guerrero. He's already talked too much **** on Pac's choice of opponents, so I think he'll be aware of the backlash if he was to be seen picking on another lightweight. Out of choices, he may entice Golden Boy to give up Canelo.

 

Does Floyd care what the fans think? Does he care about a backlash? As long as hes guaranteed his usual amount then I doubt he cares about anythting else.

I also agree with the choice of Guererro as an opponent, i'm a big Floyd fan but there's no ground at all to defend him picking Guererro. His story will sound nice on the 24/7 with the problem's he's had, but even that's not enough to sell it
