The leading candidate to face featherweight titleholder Juan Manuel Lopez on April 16 (Showtime) in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, is former titlist Orlando Salido of Mexico, Top Rank's Carl Moretti told ESPN.com. Lopez (30-0, 27 KOs), who was a former junior featherweight titlist before vacating his belt to move up in weight, will be making his third title defense. Salido (34-11-2, 22 KOs) is coming off a competitive decision loss to titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa in September. Salido, who dropped Gamboa in the eighth round, had been stripped of his belt the day of the fight because he had gained more than the 10 pounds the IBF allows between the official weigh-in the day before the fight and a weight check on the morning of the fight.
    _________

I must say I love the fight. This is the first time we can compare Gamboa's work to JML's work.

Will Arum stop feeding his fighters with all kinds of has-beens, never-beens and recently-beens? Like RIGHT NOW Bob, stop this f*cking **** RIGHT NOW!

Salido's only claim of fame in his recent one-sided loss is dropping Gamboa who gets knocked down in his every 2nd fight, no way in hell the Mexican deserves a shot nor JuanMa should fight these voices of the past. There are plenty of quality fighters out there, Gamboa is fighting a SFW champ for example.

I felt the same way when Salido fought Gamboa, but then Salido turned out to be better then everyone thought. Now I like this fight cuz I want to see if JML can look better aganist Salido....better then Gamboa. If he does look better I'll be a happy man.

JunMa is one of my favorite fighters but cmon. Salido is tough but vato aint going to do damage to JuanMA. JuanMa either takes his head off or decisions him easily. Why not throw him in their with Caballero he looked volnurable after his last fight, or the kid who beat Caballero (forgeting his name right now) or Rafa Marquez all way better fights IMO

If JuanMa pulls a Mtagwa on Salido he'll look very good, but we're past these 'I beat him better' fights - it's about Gamboa-JuanMa time but ******* Arum keeps it pushing back as 'they need to clean out the division first'. The Gamboa-Salido unification was all about that, but how does beltless, recently dominated Salido fits in that picture?

If Rojas and John are unavailable (I think John is ready), there are still guys like Barros to look good against (was also dominated by Gamboa but picked up some useless belt since), or if you want JuanMa vs. a recently beaten fighter, shout for Lopez vs. Caballero, at least that fight means something to the fans. Note that Caballero is still unbeaten at 126. I'm not going to hold losing in a forced fight in a forced higher weight against him.

I just cant wait for the Rafa rematch.

Salido is a bad fight. I mean what is this gonna do? We all know the end result of the fight if its signed. I hate fights where i have no doubt who is going to win.

lol all you guys blaming arum are forgetting that all he cars is about selling the fight and making a profit.. his boxers are his assests.. so he keeps them on top and he keeps making money.. why is this so hard to understand.. he'll make the big fights when he can make millions from them

It is a step down, but Orlando's a solid spoiler and tough *******, and could make JuanMa break at least a light sweat to earn his check.

Salido is going to give JML a tough fight. Also, JML and Gamboa have two different styles. If Lopez does wipe out Salido in a few rounds, it will not mean a damn thing.

Salido is the better name and the better fighter than all the recently mentioned possible opponents, Teon Kennedy and Cordoba are worse than Salido. Litzau is fighting Ponce de Leon and Bautista is a bum.

Notice how people have just given up on Arum and Lopez actually fighting anyone @FW who presents them with REAL DANGER  , ****in laughable and gut wrencing at the same time , look at the division and he comes up with Salido !!!!!

Yes he gave Gamboa an awkward night but **** off Bob !!!!!!!! Salido was only relevant while he was a world champion

Another war of attrition , Juanma strong early , maybe even taking Salido out , and Salido taking a couple of the later rounds

Juanma UD or TKO middle rounds
