Looks like Kessler has no interest in fighting Bute

Bute vs Johnson sounds like a good fight to me.

I don't blame Kessler people not fighting bute, Kessler's defense is a lil weak to be facing a fighter who is as accurate a puncher as Bute. He will **** around and get blinded in both eyes ****ing with Bute.

It most likely will end up being that one. The easiest fight to make from every side, Johnson's, Bute's & Showtime's.

This is not about, what the fighters want. This is about, what the promotors/managers want.

Interbox has no real interest in a Kessler-fight outside Canada. And even in Canada it is a very dangerous fight, which doesn't give that much money. They can make much more on a fight with an easier fighter as Pavlik. They will open for more money on the american market. The combined tv-rights are way better than for a Kessler fight. They can also choose another easy opponent, which they have done in the past. Bute sells 15.000 seats anyway.

A Stieglitz fight opens possibilities for Sauerland (Kessler). They can sell 20.000 seats in Copenhagen for an average of 200 $ a seat, and the fight will either be PPV with a good sale or on free national TV in both Denmark and Germany. A fight at night in Canada will be harder to sell PPV and it will be much riskier. Stieglitz will not be that expensive, and with a win they open for a fight in 2012 with either Bute or Ward/Froch. Ward will die for a revenge should he win Super-six. It is the only blemish on his record, and the fight will be huge in Europe.

It makes sense for Sauerland to make the Stieglitz fight. Relatively easy opponent, more money to be made and good posibilities for an exiting 2012. Bute could be the end and economically not quite as interesting.

Bute (should be) the 4th ranked boxer in this division, based on resume. Therefore, why should he hold all the bargaining chips. If he can go to Romania to fight Mendy, then he can go to Copenhagen to fight Kessler. Ideally, I'd like to see Kessler vs Stieglitz set up quickly for a late summer date, and then Bute and Kessler can face off before the end of the year. I know that would mean fights quite close together for Kessler but he has been inactive for quite a while!

    ...

One thing is however .... Maybe it would be wiser to take a big purse fighting Bute in Canada than risk losing to Stieglitz. If Kessler gets beaten by the german his career is all but over.

The purse will probably not be bigger for at fight against Bute than against Stieglitz. The Stieglitz fight will be huge in Denmark. Either as PPV prime-time or on free national TV and on ARD in Germany. Germany is a huge TV-market. Way bigger than Canada. So there will be a lot of money in the fight. It could also open for Kessler as a regular fighter on ARD. Sauerland get more than 2 mill. $ for a standard fightcard on ARD. In Denmark the fight will probably generate at least the same amount. Then there is the possibility of selling it to other countries.

Even though Showtime or HBO would be interested in a fight between Kessler and Bute in Canada, they will not pay that much for the fight. The real interest is in Canada and Denmark. A fight in the night sells to little PPV i Denmark. So the tv-rights are not generating that much.

    Stieglitz it will be.

I dont know about that Jens. Calzaghe-Kessler was fought in the middle of the night wasnt it?

Palle made around 3 million USD from PPV in Denmark. A bute fight would probably be just as big.

Palle made 18 mill. danish kroner (ca. 3.3 mill. $) for a fight at 2.30 am. I bet it had made much more money, if it was fought around 10.00 PM.

Montreal is six time zones from Denmark. So it probably won't be earlier than 2.30. Calzaghe was a bigger name than Bute.

But of course it is specualtion, and I can't give a precise answer. But the plan is definately Stieglitz, and I am fine with that. Better to have the fights here in Denmark, where I can watch them live

and people blame Bute for his opposition...can't fight guys that won't sign to fight you. Bute's always looking to fight the best available but has to resort to 2nd raters when the top guys duck him or are contractually under obligations in the S6
