I reckon Ortiz is the more dangerous fighter. Khan would easily outbox Madana. Obviously he's a huge puncher but i dont think he'd get close to Khan. Ortiz has plenty of power and is a much more polished boxer than Maidana.
Because he's the mandatory. And has power. He can box a bit. Urango sucks. Yeah, you say "a very limited boxer that can bang", but who was the last guy Khan fought like that? Yeah, Prescott.
Sure, because Khan is a smooth blend of Nicolino Locche and Wilfred Benitez. He will not go through fights without being hit, regardless of styles.
Maidana and Urango are about as skilled as each other, i.e not at all However, I agree with you; Khan needs to fight someone who isn't a complete feather fist. Ortiz fits the bill, but Maidana beat him AND is the mandatory.
I'd have to disagree with those that think Ortiz would be a harder fight than Maidana. The latter is relentless and won’t be deterred by the shots coming his way, whilst the former will be a lot more cautious and less willing to drag Khan in to a war. To simply put it...out of the two monster punchers, Ortiz will be easier to tame. But with that said, I don’t think Schaefer will be making this fight so soon. He has two healthy prospects in his hands which can go on to make him a lot of money, so why risk the career of one of them by pitting them against each other? If he does do this, then business-wise it’ll show again why GBP are so lame at producing and helping their young stars.
I'd prefer to see the Maidana fight than an Ortiz fight. Fair enough Ortiz is more skilled but the Maidana fight test's Khan mentally, see just how much the Prescott defeat damaged him. With Kotelnik and Malignaggi, Khan has been able to get to work without the fear of being smashed into oblivion, with Maidana he cannot do that, fair enough he'll run circles round Maidana all night long but can be box Maidana to a decision? Stay focused and calm for 12 Rounds? This is the question what make's the Maidana fight so much more. Let's not forget Khan was more skilled than Kotelnik and Malignaggi, but it did'nt stop them tagging him once or twice, if Maidana get's that oppertunity he'll take advantage of it... That's why i prefer Khan v Maidana over Khan v Ortiz
I really do think the name Erik Morales will start getting thrown if he beats Limond. Roach has said he wanted Con to fight him before. He fully fits the bill too. A big name who is shot, small & feather-fisted.
Paddy I've never seen anyone on here who would criticize Khan for fighting Maidana. Not one. Everyone wants to see it.
I wouldnt criticise him for fighting him either. I just think there are better/tougher options. As I've said, if it's mandatory then it should be fought. 100%. It's unfair on fighters who have been made mandatory for them not to get their shot. If it's not mandatory then I see no reason for the fight. Khan proves nothing by outboxing a limited technician. Khan would get much more credit in my book if he fought someone with good skills and a punch than someone with just a punch.
He is mandatory. He's been interim champ for a while now. The WBA ordered it, then ordered purse bids just as Khan left Warren. Then GBP got the purse bid cancelled and Maidana's manager said they had "come to an arrangement with GBP". Maidana got a three fight deal and all the journos reported he can't fight Khan in those three fights or for a year.
