I've no doubt that Mundine wasn't on Calzaghe's (Frank Warren's) radar. Calzaghe is at the end of his career and they've decided it's finally time to put the undefeated champion to the test...something that should have happend years ago. They're prepared to take fights that Joe could actually lose so long as the money is plentyful.

As for Mundine, I'm prepared to bet the $100,000 I'm receiving from Mr. Ustler that within 3 years, his record of opponents rates better than Calzaghe's at the same time of their respective careers.

Before anyone comments on that, Choc's been fighting for 7 years. After 7 years Joe had defended the WBO title he won from Chris Eubank on five occassions (Branko Sobot, Juan Ferreyra, Robin Reed, Rick Thornberry, David Starie) Looking at Calzaghe's following three years there aint alot Mundine would have to do for me to double my $100,000.

I guess the difference is that Calzaghe didn't lose to someone as poor as Sciaca. It'll be interesting to see what Choc does from here. I for one, won't hold my breath.

Which could go some way to justifying Choc's decision to take his time. The first two losses Choc had exposed flaws in his game which forced him to sort **** out. Had he got a win v Siaca he may have overlooked those flaws and Kessler would have smashed him into retirement.

The Kessler fight was good because it gave him the confidence to go on while still illustrating the areas needing improvement. We saw that improvement v Green + Soliman which basically signalled that he was almost right to hit the international stage. A couple of years on and he's ready to trot....

Calzaghe had a multitude of amatuer fights before going pro. He had his **** together long ago so there's no real excuse for him not to have travelled abroad. After seven years and five title defences he should have been fighting the best of the best. Look at his record and his opponents are not that.

His excuse to not travel abroad is because he gets anywhere between 40,000 and 60,000 to his fights. Why would you leave? Basically it's the same reason Mundine will continue to not test himself. Why would he? The risk far outweighs the reward.

Given the run of retirements Choc may be the last man standing .

No you miss the picture altogether. At the same stage of their careers Calzaghe fought his share of opponents lacking quality.

Knowing that Choc's class of opponent will drastically improve over the next few years, his record of opponent will outweight Calzaghe's over the same period!

For the same reason everyone bags Choc....to fight against the best opponents in the world.

This is what gets me. Choc with no amateur experience is expected to fight the best of the best after only 7 years in the game yet the same critics find ways to justify Calzaghe who has hid in his corner of the world fighting Frank Warren Wannabees for well over a decade.

I aint going to say anymore on the subject because nothing more can be said. Within three years he will have fought the best and his fans will be happy while those unobjective types will never be satisfied.

No excuses for Calzaghe. You want to be great, do great things. Why did he take this fight, why did he finally leave. He knows that his record still leaves a lot to be desired, and a big name legend Hopkins will add a lot of credibility.

Mundine, similarly needs to step it up.

He left because HBO is paying him a career high pay day. It's prize fighting after all. This fight was nearly made 4 years ago, but Hopkins didn't want to head to the UK.

I can see him fighting Wright at 160 in the states. He needs to stay well clear of Pavlik!

Mundine needs to step it up and he will.

Remember, it's taken 14 years as a professional for Calzaghe to leave Europe. Choc's only been a professional for 7 years.

In seven years from now Mundine will have added better names on his record than Bika, Manfredo Jr and a heap of German taxi drivers that are no different than Argie taxi drivers except that they have better promoters.
