That's how low Deontay set the bar in his rise to champ. That someone Joshua's age and with his accomplishments is being described as a prospect by a poster on a boxing forum.

I think he meant that Joshua still isn't the finished article but that's not what he wrote.

 

Worded like that I would agree although I honestly don't see him improving much more if any than what we see now.

I honestly feel he's come along at a bad time in one sense. The old guard are 38/39/40 and the new guard is pretty weak. Not only pretty weak but from the top 4/5 fighters there is a dramatic drop off in class.

If he's still champion in 2 years I think he'll get the true resume building fights with the guys who are just turning pro coming through.

I think this is pretty much Joshua now too and that any 'improvement' he would make would just be adopting a Wlad like blueprint of safety first boxing which killed the interest in the heavyweight division during the late 00s until recently.

 

Wilder never "signed" to fight Povetkin. Povetkin was his mandatory; in fact Wilder did everything he could to delay the fight with Povetkin for as long as possible.

And when handed with the chance to get out of it (Povetkin's questionable Meldonium test) Wilder quickly got out of the fight and happily continued to fight bums.

Let's not act here like Wilder was sorry and disappointed that he had a way to get out of the fight while keeping his belt. He felt it was divine intervention -- he was granted a second life.

 

Nobody who agrees to and wins a world championship fight should be considered a prospect. That's just asinine. They are now a world champion, regardless of your thoughts on the alphabet titles.

1). so now you're using Finkel's word to try and prove your point, after you've spent months on here talking about how he's full of hot air.

2). Joshua isn't remotely a prospect.

3). Hobson's Choice means "take it or leave it"
