Hopefully his dad will give him a hug when he gets back from his late night bender with team Kambosos
It's on him. Cutting weight has always been a part of the sport but these big weight cuts have become more prevalent since MMA. When I was fighting years ago you were typically within a few pounds of making weight when you did your cut the week of the fight. Now we have guys trying to cut 15 pounds or more just like the MMA guys do but the difference is that sport is more of an explosive sport where a lot of fights don't last that long and if they do they are on the ground. Boxing is way different especially if you have to go 12 and you have an opponent that can move like GK. At some point, these young guys are going to wise up and fight in their proper weight class. Not to long ago we had fighters like Floyd, Manny and BHOP that were always pretty close to their fighting weight. They understood that there was no need to have two fights. One with the opponent and another with the scale
Drained is an excuse a fanboy will use, never a fighter. Drained can only happen at catchweights. If you aren't a 135lber go to 140lbs and get destroyed by King Taylor or Prograis.
Lopez will get KTFO at 140. He is Adrien Broner 2.0. Nothing but a weight bully who gets exposed once he fights guys his size.
I am not satisfied yet. Lopez-Loma rematch still needs to happen, even without title on the stake. I want to see him fighting a fully fit Loma.
I'm personally not a fan of going back to same day weigh in because we still had guys that destroyed themselves to make weight same day. It really comes down to personal responsibility of the fighter's but some of these guys need to realize how badly they are damaging their bodies and careers. Lopez looked like a frigging Jr. Middleweight tonight but all that size did nothing for him.
The promoters also don't want same day weigh ins....they are becoming a spectacle that they can sell.
