Yep Gamboa did not get tagged at all by Mtagwa but he would by Lopez. On the flip side Luevano's punches had no effect on JuanMa but Gamboa's would. It would be a great fight.
Great fight, I thought Gamboa would be tested a bit tonight but that obviously didn't happen. Lopez would be harder for Gamboa to hit and Lopez is a very good fighter but Gamboa keeps getting better, I think Lopez better take that fight soon if you ask me. Gamboa is gonna be a star. I'd give Gamboa the edge due to speed and power, I still wonder how he will handle a stiff test, Lopez would certainly be that.
It's a great style match-up and I am back and forth on it. I have always liked Gamboa... well both of them really... but I can see it going either way. Gamboa can be extremely overwhelming to his opponents, however I can definitely see Lopez catching Gamboa getting wild and finding some serious success with those counter right-hooks and uppercuts. It would be very interesting seeing how that fight plays out. It definitely needs to happen.
Kevin Iole said earlier this week that the plan is for JuanMa to fight this summer in Puerto Rico, while Gamboa fights in Germany. Then Arum wants to do Lopez-Gamboa at the end of the year.
Its nice to see these real good contenders in FW division. Another good era announcing itself. Add an amazing prospect like Rigondeaux to the mix and a solid veteran like Chris John holding the throne for now. Its good for boxing and good for the fans. And when they move up their are other good fighters like Linares (who i haven't given up on) and Soto waiting for them.
