Shouldn't have fought? You're probably right, but he did anyway. I think the fight was good enough and there are enough "buts" to warrant a rematch.
It makes sense if he was injured before camp and didn't want to delay the fight AGAIN after the thumb issue. Rafa has been in enough wars for us to know better than to question his heart. He didn't fake it.

Especially if it was injured a week or so before the bout, when the majority of tickets were sold. I can't imagine Marquez pulling out then, unless it was necessary.
Put it on ppv and I will even pay for it, that was a great fight!! I would not question marquez and his heart as that is not even something that should even be questioned.. To many questions left in answered Juan did not dominate and if marquee had his right hand it would have been a very different fight. Bring on the rematch and another foty candidate that clash of styles was awesome.
Another one, indeed we need, with one hand he almost pull it off, lopez show again, a lot of heart. Kudos to both fighters.
Ive got no desire for a rematch. Mainly because I dont believe Marquez really hurt his shoulder, I think he physically hit a wall where he simply couldnt keep up anymore.... he IS 35 with enough wars to fill multiple careers. If Im wrong and he really did hurt his shoulder, Wow! Then I guess I wouldnt mind seeing a second fight, but really, Marquez is getting to the stage now where he should think about moving in a different direction with his life, maybe become a trainer or something. But if he really did hurt his shoulder then he was even more impressive. I just saw a point where it was like Marquez had little left, and it was really close after he just had his best moments, it was like he just lost his tightness, his strength, his speed, and you could just tell he didnt have much left. His heart kept him in it for a bit afterwards though. Props to Marquez for giving such a spirited effort....
I agree. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to be rocked the way he was rocked and to keep up the pressure afterwards. He could have easily started backing up and trying to play it safe. I am interested to see if he can do it against an opponent whos young, peak, and his size, but regardless, it is a good sign that he was able to do it at all.
His right shoulder was hurt no doubt, he was constantly croutching and getting in real close to land his left hook, which I felt was'nt a good idea against a puncher like Lopez. During the fight, I was constantly yelling to the screen, throw the jab, shoot the right, I could'nt figure out why he was left hook happy......and I really did'nt have any clue that his right was hurt until right at the end of the 8th where it seemed that Marquez after taking some heavy shots was confused, but replay showed he was pointing to his shoulder that it was hurt. The ref, Weeks, did a terrible job.......I'm not sure if it was deliberate or not, but he sure as hell took alot of time stopping the fight in the 4th round to take points away from Lopez, when in fact what he was doing helped Lopez.....it bought him the time he needed to get his legs under him after he had been badly hurt. It seemed to me that Weeks took almost a minute timeout to take the points away. ........you would think that the proper thing to do there is to let the round go (seeing that it was the fighter commiting the fould that was hurt) and then take the point away from Lopez at the end of the round. But what Weeks did was buy Lopez the time he needed to recover. What Marquez said afterward was that he had injured the right shoulder during training camp and re-aggravated it during the fight, but did not want to again postpone the fight after it already had been postponed once. Now, having said that, I'm not so sure Marquez can beat Lopez if they rematch I noticed it even during Marquez' last fight with Izzy........his legs are shot.:? They looked unstable to me even while he was dominating Izzy......and they looked even worse tonight while he was digging in to punch with Lopez. I think that what happend in that 8th round was that Marquez had been getting hammered the two previous rounds, and I believe he decided to go for broke in that 8th, and had nothing left to come out with for the 9th. As a R. Marquez fan, I'm proud of him.......he realized the situation he was in.......he was heavily favoring throwing his left hand, unable to shoot the right with power, took his chance and shot his wad in the 8th. Marquez did what alot of fighters would not do, he went for it.....and I'd rather see a fighter do that and then have to surrender, than to skip away looking to just finish the fight in survival mode. Rafael Marquez had my respect and support, and to give Juan Manuel Lopez the credit he deserves.....I thought Lopez fought a very diciplined fight and did'nt panic even when he was hurt. Lopez did a terrific job fighting within himself. Congratulations to Juan Manuel Lopez. Hell of a fight, congratulations to them both.:happy
No rematch please... Lopez dominated the fight except for a few moments. Marquez had him hurt baaaadly and he couldn't finish the job or even score a knockdown. I don't wanna hear about a shoulder injury either. Everybody has excuses when they lose these days. Nobody ever just loses. They always injured themselves in training camp, had trouble making weight, etc. It's bull****. Lopez had a great performance and lame excuses won't change that.
Cant believe so many people are interested in a rematch.. if it's made it'll be just a business decision by juanma.. he'll get a huge payday in PR and an easy win in front of his people :hat
