If I was to give an advice to the Lopez camp, I'd tell them to just fight patiently and do nothing but stick and move all night. It'll be one of the easier decision wins that he'll ever have. Gerry has some problems getting close to tall and defensive minded boxers, even back at 115 and 118. (He's already a bit undersized at 118, what more at 122? He's just a short, stocky little guy. I wish he was blessed with a lankier body frame that's perfect for a boxer) If you plan on just jabbing and moving and staying away from Gerry's bigger punches, you have a good chance of winning by decision. The more aggressive Gerry's opponents are, the better chances you give Penalosa of hurting you.
I hope Penalosa wins...I love these kinds of upsets, when a Veteran beats some "unbeatable" guy. Lopez might be good, but there is noway he KOs Penalosa in 1 round I see Lopez winning a decision here, but im rooting for Pen-a-losa
my thoughts are you never probably watch penalosa fight to say he'll be knockout in the 1st round. This guy is like winky wright defensively. He doesn't get hit much and has a good chin. I see lopez winning by UD but not by knockout.
Penalosa is a boxer who is better in a phone booth war because he has shorter reach and very technical. All of his losses were from fighters who are tall and fights tall (bicycle around). Even DPL had to fight from a distance because he always ends up in the losing end when he tried to fight Gerry in close quarters. I would be surprised if Lopez would try that because that would give Gerry an oppurtunity to counter him. Gerry would not be an idiot like DPL or Boomboom who just throws punches without thinking or wildly swinging hoping that he lands first or be KOed just like playing russian roulette. I predict that Lopez will be in bicycle tomorrow.
Penalosa is actually very durable and his best bet is to take Lopez into the late rounds. He won't come to trade with him early. If he did, then Lopez would have a better chance of KO-ing him. This is how I see it anyway.
Yes he is. Smart and experienced. And if he doesn't at least survive the early rounds, he might as well pack it all in. So I think he will aim to survive and make it a long night for JuanMa.
Damn, you guys remember this card: Ratanachai Sor Vorapin L Jhonny Gonzalez TKO 7 12 Fernando Montiel W Pramuansak Posuwan UD 12 12 Hugo Fidel Cazares W Kaichon Sor Vorapin KO 6 12 Daniel Ponce de Leon W Sod Looknongyangtoy UD 12 12 Jose German Cruz W Kosol Sor Vorapin TKO 4 8 Terdsak Jandaeng W Carlos Contreras SD 8 They need to do another Mexico vs Thailand card like this. That was a fun card to watch.
lopez is some puncer but i dont think he will KO Penalosa, i think penalosa may end up wearing lopez down and winning by a late stoppage or decision
You are partially correct....I've seen him before, however I haven't paid much attention to him... Penalosa is a hell of a fighter with a heart to match.....hell of a chin as well.... I give props to Penalosa!!!!
