By Carlos Cinco: This coming weekend we have a couple good fights to look forward to. Not exactly great fights, but good enough to keep boxing afloat. Anyway, it’s time to take our attention away from the elite and focus on some young rising talent our sport has to offer.
Andre Berto VS Victor Ortiz (Welterweights)
This fight is for the WBC Welterweight strap. There are a lot of people out there who believe Victor Ortiz is a great prospect, a hard puncher and has the potential to be one of the best action fighters in the game – however, I’m not one of them. Well at least not yet. I have to agree with Andre Berto on this one, when asked what he thinks of Ortiz, Berto replied “He has a lot of different weaknesses, he’s been a puncher trying to box. I don’t think he has it all done, yet. April 16 I’ll use all my skills to expose him.” Victor Ortiz still hasn’t found his true identity as a fighter, in my honest opinion. I think Berto will be too much for him. Andre Berto has superior boxing skills and is heaps faster than Victor Ortiz. Berto has maybe the fastest hands in Boxing, even considering Manny Pacquiao. The only gripe you can possibly have with him is the obvious lack of big name opponents in his resume. Yet Victor Ortiz is tough and I don’t think he has that much of a glass chin, it was Maidana who made him quit after all.
I have Andre Berto winning this one on points in a lopsided contest over 12 rounds. Berto by Unanimous Decision.
Juan Manuel Lopez VS Orlando Salido (Featherweights)
Over the past couple of years, Juan Manuel Lopez has established himself as one of the most exciting fighters in the lower weight classes. He’s on a collision course right now against eventual rival Yuriorkis Gamboa, but before he even thinks about stepping into the ring with the Cuban native he has to get past tough Mexican challenger Orlando Salido. Salido went the full twelve rounds with Yuriorkis Gamboa with an awkward style that proved troublesome. But Lopez is a different beast and punches way harder than Gamboa. Salido may be tough but I don’t think he can go the distance with one of the most explosive punchers today. Salido was put in front of ‘JuanMa’ so he can get used to awkward boxers in preparation for his showdown with Gamboa. I have Juan Manuel Lopez winning via devastating TKO victory in the middle to late rounds in an all action fight. In the end, ‘JuanMa’s punching power will be too much for the Mexican.
Juan Manuel Lopez via TKO in Rd. 8.

A lot of people picked Ortiz over Berto, including myself. But you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who said Salido would beat JuanMa
