It's a close fight. LaMotta in the end achieved more, and that has to count for something. Beating Cerdan and Robinson for the middleweight title is better than Eubank's beating Benn and holding the WBO title in middle and supermiddle. Especially as a result of Eubank's caution, I'd go with LaMotta.

    To make you happy, though:

Turpin would beat LaMotta. If Calzaghe beats Kessler, he would also beat LaMotta at supermiddleweight, and I would give him a much better chance vs. Robinson at that weight. Tom Cribb would beat Tyson under London Prize Ring Rules. So would most of the (British) bareknuckle champions.

    Are you happy now? ;)

Calzaghe probably can't beat Kessler -fullstop- Joe is old now, his reflexes faded and Kessler is one of the best super-orthodox boxers I have ever seen -fullstop- It is foolish to even talking about Calzaghe beating Kessler -fullstop- (I'm not that keen on British fighters by the way - they are generally rubbish)

Surely Calzaghe's superhuman abilities will save him?

He is only one of the top 10 best boxers of all time - not the sportsman of the century, if he wins then I have severerly under-rated Joe Calzaghe -fullstop-

List 100 fighters greater than Joe Calzaghe, you probably can't list 10 -fullstop-

    I predict the following:

    1. This one will be a very popular poll.
    2. Manfredo will knock Joe from the number one spot, after their rematch.

It would be no problem to list a hundred GREATER.

    He already gets credit.

If he handles Kessler as you say, folks will have some thinking to do.

I truly respect Joe for doing the right thing and taking this fight. If he wins, I'm going to become a big fan. If he then again fights the best out there available to him, I will become as big a fan as any here!

Personally, I'll find it hard to forgive the years of nobodies. Manfredo was an afront to the sport. That kind of "exposure" fight is fine for a first strap defence but at that point in Joe's career...poor.

thats my point....i dont think kessler's the bogeyman...but loads of people over on the general boxing forum seem to think he is some awesome superpower, unbeaten and unbeatable.....joe calzaghe only made me a believer when he whupped lacey..now everyone says he was overrated...lacey was the next big thing and joe gave a masterclass.....i think calzaghe is, essentially, a lazy fighter..he fights to the level, or perceived level, of his opposition...hence his sleepwalking against some of his lesser foes.....he sees kessler as a big threat..i hope..and as a result will handle this kid...easily..you heard it here ok!!...joe goes on to fight froch, woods, jones jr and hopkins.....then retires a happy bunny....ps.froch is only on that list cos he cant keep his mouth shut bout beating joe....
