Lorenzo-Soto starting now!!!! On Box Azteca...Round-x-Round in progress

Lorenzo deducted a point in 7th after repeated warnings throughout fight.

Now their clinches need to be separated as neither fighter has the energy to blast free anymore.

Last minute and a half heats up as Soto gets into a rhythm, banging Lorenzo with hooks and uppercuts in the corner. Stuffs a triple jab in his face in the middle of the ring. Lorenzo is stalking less intently now, Soto has accomplished what I said he needed to last round.

Lorenzo sneaks in a hammerlike left to the chin of Soto, who responds with a brutal seven punch combination (the entirety of which lands flush).

Clear Soto round.

68-65 Soto.

 

Soto very comfortable now, bouncing around on his toes, jabbing off the backfoot. Lorenzo eventually traps him in the ropes and it degenerates into infighting chaos again.

As soon as distance is created Soto starts landing bombs.

Lorenzo deducted another point for rabbit punching, throwing a mini tantrum. ****, I almost though he was going to get DQed there.

Soto wants to finish him, lands a few combos and is now the aggressor but applying very smart, calculated aggression. Lorenzo is tentative coming in, now relegating his offense to occasional whiplike slaps to Soto's ribs. Soto is keeping the pace and distance exactly where he wants them, and counterpunching while slowly advancing on Lorenzo.

78-72 (after the 2 points taken) Soto.

 

He looks great, but like I said Lorenzo is a mini Mayorga about as far removed from Guzman as Ricardo is from Floyd.

 

Lorenzo huffing and puffing but sticking to his 'gameplan' of zigzagging forward bobbing left and right then surfacing with wide power punches. Soto is having a tough time finding a target and the speed of the punches coming at him, sloppy and telegraphed as they are, is giving him some problems as he is getting tagged.

Possibly a round for Lorenzo, but I'll call it even for now since I didn't really see the first minute and really the last 2 minutes were even.

 

Lorenzo mugs Soto, who tries to push him off to put him at the end of a straight right. Pattern repeats several times. Nady warns Lorenzo for leading with his head.

Lorenzo throwing from some crazy angles, Soto clearly doesn't like it but is keeping his cool.

Both of these guys have some sneaky handspeed on the inside.

Soto landed two hard power punches that were the best of that round, so I'll give him the 10th.

 

Soto starts to open a hole and then continue to dynamite away with uppercuts, then launches a textbook 1-2-3-2 combo that staggers Lorenzo badly for the first time in 9 rounds halfway through 11th.

Lorenzo keeps his legs until the end of the round when nailed again, clinch is broken up just as bell sounds.

107-100 Soto (I changed that even round to a Lorenzo round, not that it isn't academic. Homeboy needs a knockout and I strongly doubt he'll get it in the next three minutes)

 

Crazy, the Azteca announcers gave the 10th and 11th to Lorenzo but none of the three earlier rounds I did. :?

Lorenzo coming in slapping away at the body, Soto keeps him at bay with his fists on his shoulders protecting his face with his elbows. Both guys down within thirty seconds, ruled as slips (I'd need to see a slow motion replay but one or both of them could have been rules as knocked down...particularly Lorenzo...could swear a punch landed before he went down...), Soto crashes into ropes and Lorenzo tries to hit him while he's tangled. They flurry down the stretch.

Crazy round, I don't even know how the hell to score it.

Should have been in the ballpark of 117-109. Maybe 116-110
