Never even heard the guys name before now. Beat Vinny Paz by DQ after beating the **** out of him all night. Right before that beat a 45-1 Juan Martin Coggi. His career ended getting his ass kicked by Rosario. Anyone know anything about Garza?
He was absolutely massacred by Rosario. He barely makes it out of round one and is rubbery for the remainder of the contest. The ref should have stopped it much earlier. Garza was the owner of a padded record if there ever was one.
He was dominating Paz before the DQ, or so the score cards say. Was the Coggi decision poor? Neither of those fighters are bad ones.
I didn't see too much of him, but he had one hell of a jab. One of the best in boxing at the time. Rosario simply mulllered him, knocking him down very early in the first and Garza jusr never recovered from it.
Loreto Garza, beast of a man. Because of what happened in the Rosario fight, he's become somewhat underappreciated. Blasted out former IBF lightweight champ Harry Arroyo in 1 round, and then grotesquely swollen, and under mounting pressure round-after-round, outhustled big time Frankie Warren, a good fighter in his own right. Not a bad fighter by any stretch, he had the tools to beat any of today's crop of junior welterweights.
Once Garza got going in a fight, he was a tough, tough assignment, because he could throw a ridiculous number of punches during the course of a round, and could repeat this process for as many times as was needed. You could outbox a fighter like Warren (McGirt did), but to outhustle him and beat him in terms of sheer volume was pretty impressive. But, yeah, he got smoked by Rosario, who basically ended the fight with the first punch that put Garza on the floor. Garza got up, but was basically out of the fight from that point on.
Garza's being way overrated here. He had a couple of good wins, but he was a world champ, thats' the least we could expect. One of those was against possibly the most overrated fighter of the last 20 years (after Tony Tucker) in Pazienza. He had decent boxing skills but was never anything special.
No one here ever said he was "special", though. The most that's being stated was that he was a pretty decent fighter at his best, and that he shouldn't just be remembered for his loss to Rosario. Garza was a pretty solid fighter at his best, and that makes Rosario's demolition of him that much more impressive
Garza I think got caught cold by Rosario and Rosario never let him recover. Another win for Garza was his 1 punch KO over Joe Manley. Garza was a damn good boxer.Anybody know why he retired so quick?
Fair enough mate. But there was one or two comments suggesting he was better than he was (due to his record). He was a capable fighter, who'd only ever reign in a weak division in a split-title era.
Don't know about that.Coggi was a good boxer and Warren was tough as nails and Paz was a capable fighter.
