Malis' got a grappler's mentality. Yes, some pro boxers do the same thing, but wrestlers have been doing this at all levels of the game for decades. Drying out works very well for some people; but not everyone. A few guys have died recently from their livers basically melting from cutting weight. They've put measures in place recently to curb weight cutting in amateur wrestling at the high school and collegiate levels. My own personal opinion is that anything more than a 10~15 pound drop from what you feel healthy & in shape at in training, is probably a bit much; be it losing the weight through cutting water in the days before the fight or severely restrictive dieting in the weeks before the fight. Once or twice to make weight at your normal weight isn't that big a deal, but if you have to do that every time out, you may be asking for trouble. For myself, I have zero performance if I cut too much or don't get enough food - from having gone to that well too many times. My body just can't really take it anymore. My past sins have screwed my metabolism to the point that I can't drop more than 5 to 10 pounds with 3 months of 3-a-day workouts 5 times a week & a clean, well-monitored diet. Look at Duran these days if you want to see what happens to your body when you've just put it through too much he|| (or see Ricky Hatton in 5 years).
Hopefully he'll take his own advice and we won't have to worry about him posting after he has a massive heart attack. :thumbsup
Oh silly me, how could I have forgotten about the good 'ole starve and weight drain yourself before a fight to get the upper hand trick. atsch Some weigh ins come in a couple hours before the fight, you would not have enough time to safely eat a meal plus gain energy back for the fight.
3 months is plenty of time if you stick to your diet, up your cardio and drink loads of water. I have recently came down from 230 to 210 in just over 6 weeks. I have been training 3 times a week plus playing 5 a side football (soccer) once a week. I stick to my diet 6 days a week and have a day off on a saturday where i have a few beers and a takeaway meal (just to keep myself sane!!!). Only problem i had was i was loosing muscle mass so i have started to have a protein shake immediatly after training and this seems to be helping. Good luck
If you know your body and know how much weight you can loose before a fight comfortably loosing 10lb in one day before a fight is no big deal. If you are fighting hours before the weigh in you can't do it.
