A couple days back i sparred a kid from another gym who i'd never seen before. He was a southpaw and came out just throwing haymakers. He caught me with a lot of shots. I held my own against him the next round but im not really used to boxing against swarmer types like him. Its pretty safe to say he knocked me around quite a bit.
I sparred today and felt technically good, but i really didnt have the spark or motivation to fight. My mindset was screwed up.I felt like i didnt belong in the ring. Is this a common thing in the fight game? To be honest i've had confidence problems in the past and i just feel like im back to square one

Hell yeah that is normal; You haven't ever heard of Pro's losing it after taking a L? Lately we had Cotto.. they did a big thing about it during the 24/7 with Mayweather/Cotto.

Don't feel bad about being caught off guard by a style you haven't seen or faced a lot before... that is pretty normal.. Try to get some more practice in against it so it doesn't catch you off guard so much.

Yeah man i feel like that all the time bro i go against some stray guys and catch them off guard being ima decently fast heavyweight.
But when i first went against our pro guy who is mma and fought in Bellator he whooped my ass and popped 2 blood vessels in my eye. I felt like i couldnt box anymore
got my head right, started eating healthy again, started working out slips and ways to miss as well as work my rear or counter if i miss and now Hes my only sparring partner and we split rounds. Dont get discouraged man Even ALI lost

Thanks fellas...I stuck to my game plan and everything, felt good with my combos and technique overall. Its just i usually have that "Lets Go!" attitude if i get hit with a hard shot/combo, but i just felt out of it today, like it wasnt for me or something. Im gonna stay persistant and keep working through it and hopefully ill come back better than ever.

Have you been eating right? That can really **** you up if you've been eating doing the Chocolate Milk and Donuts thing for food before working out..

you will let this experience either help you to grow as a fighter or to make you cower and crawl back into your safe hole, it's up to you.

i lost my 4th bout ever to an akward south paw, heres what i did.....

they had told me that fighting with a south paw could be akward and it might just seem like youre boxing in Bazaro world. i said really and then proceeded to agree while fighting the kid and the continued to find out everything that there is to learn about south paws.

1 rough amatuer sparring session with a style that was brand new to you is no reason to nuke Rome.

maybe take a day and really look in to yourself, find exactly where you believe that you should be in the future. this is no time for bravado and pride, you are wading in shark infested waters with this game. is it in you? how could i possibly know. when you look inside yourself its an instantaious anawer, its just that quick, its either one way or the other. in the blink of an eye punches are exchanged, in those flash moments you don't even have a blink of an eye of to know that you belong there.

its a tough sport kid. while i recommend it highly to our youth it just is not for everybody.

so you decide whether or not you belong. you can come on here and talk all that you want, but theres only one place you need to be to prove your assertion if you indeed belong.

Each session have a plan, something you want to improve on. After a training session like that one ask yourself what you could've done differently and then let it go. Each time you step into the gym it is a new time, don't bring the past into it, stay in the moment. Learn to cherish those moments that force you to learn, be comfortable being uncomfortable.

I feel the same way after a layoff. Everyone I knew will be better, while I'm not even able to go 100% yet.

Part of me is afraid, and another side wants to get back in and see what I can do.

You'll be better than ok...drill hard and let your confidence come from conditioniong, and better technical knowledge.

the only thing is to stay consistent and keep on going. You will be ten times better as you get more experience.
