Losing ONE POUND can never in a million years weaken an adult male.

    A pound is nothing,if you are in training and dieting.Its a trip to the steam room or a bit of light running.

    So why didn't Castillo lose even a half a pound against Corrales at the weigh in?

    I was always taught 5 small meals a day is ideal when you are training.Ive never taken protein supplements.Dont see the point,you can get all the protein you need from food.

    5 meals a day is perfect.

    Although, not everyone can EAT all their protein. 150gs is relatively hard to eat. That's why people have protein shakes.

    Guess it would be hard for some people,it depends on the type of food you like,i find eating meat or fish with salad or rice pretty easy,i also work nights so i never have the"cant eat that for breakfast"problem,i usually have some cottage cheese with rice cakes before going to bed on a morning.
    If people are having to force food down that they dont really like just to ensure they are getting enough protein or for that matter carbs,then supplements are a good thing cos they would quit the diet after a week or so.

    Definitely, but look at Pac, 7000 calorie diets. No way he's eating all the protein. Not possible.

    I must admit the diet i follow is pretty old fashioned.Pac is on a very well thought out modern diet.Im guessing they have looked long and hard at his metabolism and worked out the best way to put the weight on.I dont think he is on gear,they have just got the diet perfect for him.In his case its all about lean gain.Ive not seen the things he eats,would be interested to do so.

    It's not just 1 pound, it's ANOTHER pound. 1 pound makes a big difference when you have already drained your body out and you have practically no fat left.

    Thats a good point,im guessing him and his team just got everything wrong on the day.The start of the thread is could it weaken you,the answer to that is no.What i said was in relation to a guy not having problems at the weight.If a man has gone down as far as his body will allow him to then getting any weight off will be a problem.Castillo stayed at a weight too long and it backfired on him.The whole set up must have known they were not going to make the weight without problems way before the weigh in,and he was not going to shift anymore no matter what on the day.

    The thread starters point was (or his attempt at a point) was that essentially, 1lb shouldn't have been a problem for Cotto or someone like Castillo.

    Which is false.

    It depends how drained the person it at the time. The lowest I can get to is 170 lbs, believe me, even losing ONE pound after that is ****ing HARD.

    Well said. Every thing and every person has a breaking point. If 146lbs is the absolute minimum, then going to 145lbs is that breaking point. If 143lbs is the breaking point, but someone is at 146lbs, then going to 145lbs won't be the breaking point. The blanket statement of "one pound not mattering" is not universally true as this thread suggests.

    I think that the OP's point is simple.

    If you can make 146 you can make 145.
    so, by that theory, why can't Cotto fight at Bantamweight?

    I mean, if he can make 145, he can make 144 right?
    And if he can make 144, 143 is fine. (etc etc).
