If you were a pro boxer, which achievement would you rather have at the end of your career (if forced to chose)?

Lonsdale belt outright. That bad boy would take pride of place on the mantlepiece. Depends how close the world title fight was as well though. Would I win the fans over Rocky style? If so I may change my mind.

I would like a Lonsdale belt. These days any ****er can get a world title shot but a Lonsdale belt is much more prestigious and would therefore mean a lot more.

Gary Lockett will just be remembered as 'that guy who **** his pants against Pavlik' whereas had he won the Lonsdale belt outright he would have a lot more respect.

I said world title, but it would depend on who it was you lost to eg.Gavin Rees won the WBA version.

Is money a factor in this discussion, or just a sense of achievement?

I was looking at it from a sense of achievement point of view...

See, I'm thinking stuff like that now. I immediately chose the Lonsdale belt and I am happy to stick with it but other things are making this decision close. Is there more money and respect coming out of the world title shot? Will the people forever remember me as 'that guy who gave it everything'? Which champ did I lose to? etc.

For me to own a Lonsdale would be a massive thing and put you in list of champions that went back the best part of a century in some cases. If I wasn't good enough to win a world title, to own a Lonsdale would be the next best thing for me.

if it was a performance like Finnegan vs Foster where he showed he was a top class operater or Rudkin vs Rose. I would choose the title challenge. Basically if i fought an amazing fight against a great fighter

but if it was Lockett vs Pavlik i would rather have the Belt

:goodThat's what I'm trying to say as well. I'm sticking with the tag of outright belt winner but, like I've said, it does depend on the circumstances, Gaz. The Lonsdale belt is a fantastic and prestigious thing to have, though- no-one could take it away from you once you've won it outright. If you lose a world title fight you get no memento to show people in 30 years or so.

Good post mate. How about something like Sibson vs Hagler (or Jones vs Curry) where you were a brave but outclassed challenger? No disgrace in losing to an ATG and you were genuine world class but you never won the Lonsdale outright?

(I know Sibson and Jones did get a Lonsdale but just for the sake of argument)

    **** me, that's a tough one.

Gaz how about you held the Lonsdale but didn't win it outright and also challenged The Man in your division but lost in a brave fight. I wouldn't mind that :D.

Nah mate, you either get to OWN the Lonsdale or go down fighting "the man" in your division in a world title challenge......:bart;)
