The light heavyweight title, now so presigeous, was so lightly regarded in its infancy that some fighters who had legitimately won it, never bothered to claim it. Philadelphia Jack O'Brien won the title from Bob Fitzsimmons and subsequently lost to three fighters who were under the light heavyweight limit. Had any of these fighters claimed the title then their resumes would have been enhanced in hindsight. Tommy Burns-could have been a two division champion. Stanley Ketchel-could have been a two division champion. Sam Langford (some sources disput that he was under the limit)-could at least have had a lineal title in one weight class to show for his career.
