Hi guys im just looking for some advice.......about 6 months ago I was a hungry up and coming fighter that had to be dragged from the gym and trained 6 days a week and always watching fights and learning and basically just educating myself about the sweet science. But since then I have just lost all passion for the sport....rarely watch fights anymore...only the top ones and never even train.I know this might sound stupid but I really want to get back into it....now I know You guys will probably say "well then do" but I feel like something is holding me back!Maybe its a mental thing....but was just wondering do any of you guys get like this and if use do what do use do?Im not looking for some magic formula that will take me back into the gym but just advice and maybe info on what you think has happened to me? Thanks

    Me too. I'm over boxing.

Do you compete at all? Maybe lining a fight up will light a fire under your arse and get you back in there.

After almost 8 years of boxing I still get that way every once in awhile. The key, is to just takes breaks every time you feel that way. It's impossible to do anything that much and not have it get old on you. Once every month or two take a full week off and relax.

Yes. No one to fight. I can stay in shape on my own for free so there's really no point in paying to go hit a heavy bag when I have one in my garage.

that came as a shock to me Amy. I thought the passion will never leave you I thought you were like women version of bernard hopkins in boxing. Do you still do your roadwork ??

I sometimes get the same feeling that maybe boxing ain't for me and it get a little boring after some time but after a little break I am starting to miss it and go back to training

Yes, 6 days a week. haha. I even went to the gym this week. :patsch I love boxing. I'm the hardest worker in my gym. But it isn't paying off and I've just lost all steam. It's really made me reconsider what I've given up for the past 2 1/2 years to compete.

sorry to hear that Amy. I was actually looking forwart to your future fights.
It's just sad that something you've worked so hard for and dedicated most of your time ain't working the way you'd want to.
I guess somethimes things don't go the way we won't them to go and we have to look for alternative. Whatever you decide to do, compete or not just stay fit and keep training. Sometimes boxing can come in handy plus it's the greates work out. We've even had football players come to out gym and after 3-4 round they would either quit and be so tired that you could just punch them like heavebags. They change their opinion about boxing right away.
Whatever you do good luck Amy and remember
"Warrior does not give up what he loves, he finds the love in what he does"

Just a quote from a movie Ive seen recently
    cheers:)

I wouldnt worry about it too much if you ask me. Im in the same position with my study, pretty much spent 3 years learning something I didnt like and will never do, always think about what I shouldve done.

But its not about the result, its about what ive picked up and experienced along the way. Sounds corny but its the truth.

If you enjoyed it as it happened then you have nothing to worry about.

No no no no..... your not done yet. :nono You still have a love for it, otherwise you wouldn't be here.

Either that or you just need something to do to kill time.

this usually happens to newbies when they try to master everything at once too soon. they get frustrated because they dont make the progress the want and they quit for good.

same for other who train and/or fight too much: the body and mind needs rest between,if that doesnt happen- then the the body tells you to stop. it a natural brake the body does.

too much is too much-not just boxing-it goes for all things in life.

a good coach should tell you when to stop and start again. if this is not the case, then do quit and do something else what makes life worth:

    friends,girls,clubbing,movie etc.

go back to the gym when you really want it and not before

Maybe boxexpert is right and you should just take some time off from it. People tend to think that it's not ok to "quit" or take breaks even if its something you love. In general people just take things way too seriously.

    Everything in moderation!:thumbsup

Well, it's not that I'm burnt out. Quite the opposite actually. I want to take it farther and I want to progress faster and I don't have the opportunities to do so.
