There are a lot of heavyweights scheduled to fight this weekend. I didn't realize. Tony Yoka (2016 Olympic gold medalist) vs. Alexander Dimitrenko (Canal+ France) on Saturday Joe Joyce (2016 Olympic silver medalist) vs. Bryant Jennings (ESPN+ & BT Sport) on Saturday Daniel Dubois vs. Nathan Gorman (ESPN+ & BT Sport) on Saturday Robert Helenius vs. Gerald Washington (FS1) on Saturday Charles Martin vs. Daniel Martz (possibly FS1) on Saturday Hughie Fury vs. Sam Peter (Channel 5 UK) on Friday Otto Wallin vs. BJ Flores (Showtime) on Friday Jermaine Franklin vs. Jerry Forrest (Showtime) on Friday Ivan Dychko (2016 Olympian) vs. Nate Heaven on Friday (no broadcast channel yet) Any opinions on who will shine and who will not? I'm curious to see how Tony Yoka does. Jermaine Franklin hasn't impressed me at all. I don't know why he's getting a push. Of course, the Dubois-Gorman and Joyce-Jennings show will get most of the attention.
HELL YES. Some real competitive match ups here, **** i think im looking forward to most if not all of them, to be fair i didt know about the Showtime card but i do now. so thanks for that. To be lazy i will say all the names you put 1st are the winners except the last one which im near enough clueless about. As a British fight fan i think the one that stands out the most for me is the Dubois v Gorman fight. I cant wait for that one. Also very much looking forward to Joyce v Jennings. I expect Joyce to win but i like Jennings, not a high standard but hes relatively rounded as an operator and will bring a bit more game for Joyce to work with instead of them just standing there to take a beating. Wallin v Flores could get tasty. Crap fight in the big scheme of things but that could produce some meaty dirty action.
I like Joyce. I wish his hands were a little faster. So slow, but very entertaining fighter. I always like watching him. Yoka might be the one I'm most interested in, although I don't know how solid a fight it will be. Is Yoka for real or is he another PED scandal away from disappearing completely?
Verrdicts still out on Yoka for me. He does look good, certainly dangerous but he looks good when he is controlling the fight. I feel he may look a bit basic if a better Boxer rips control of the fight from him when he steps in to the big time. But hes on his way, more top fighters the better in this division.
He’s got real skills, and he’s very fast for a 6’7” guy. Obviously there’s the PED question, but Dave Allen has said several times of all his opponents Yoka was the strongest. His time in the ams suggests his chin’s pretty bad though. He should blitz Dimitrenko pretty easily.
My Picks for the ones that I am interested in:- Tony Yoka (2016 Olympic gold medalist) vs. Alexander Dimitrenko (Canal+ France)- YOKA TKO 8 Joe Joyce (2016 Olympic silver medalist) vs. Bryant Jennings (ESPN+ & BT Sport) on Saturday- JOYCE TKO 7 Daniel Dubois vs. Nathan Gorman (ESPN+ & BT Sport) on Saturday- DUBOIS UD12 Robert Helenius vs. Gerald Washington (FS1) on Saturday- HELENIUS KO5 Charles Martin vs. Daniel Martz (possibly FS1) on Saturday- MARTIN TKO2 Hughie Fury vs. Sam Peter (Channel 5 UK) on Friday- HUGHIE TKO4
Hope yoka loses, never going to happen against glass heart though Helenius ko Washington Hughie tko/corner retirement Gorman tko Dubois
My picks: Yoka RTD5 Dimitrenko Joyce TKO8 Jennings Gorman UD Dubois Helenius KTFO6 Washington Martin TKO2 Martz Fury RTD7 Peter Wallin UD Flores Franklin TKO8 Forrest Dychko TKO3 Heaven
If hughie stuggles against peter then he’s done in my eyes. 24, he should have defended the British and mastered his craft domestically. What’s jabbing peter for 6 rounds till his eyes shut going to achieve?
Frank Sanchez is a prospect worth keeping eye on, fighting Jason Bergman on the same card as Washington Helenius I believe. These next two weekends are incredible for HW, though I’m wondering wth is going on with the Whyte-Rivas television outside of the UK.
Dimitrenko just lost to Ruiz a few months ago. I think they picked him for an easy night's work. Yoka is such a mystery to me, though. I thought Joyce beat him in the Olympics. I saw the Allen fight. Yoka has missed so much time, though. He's got zero momentum. It's difficult to start and stop so early in a pro career. He might be ripe for an upset against someone. But Dimitrenko is on his last legs.
Hughie looked really good against Sam Sexton. Then, against Pulev, he reminded me of Chuck Wepner against Ali. He was sloppy and got smacked around. Hughie may have peaked already at just 24. He's become kind of a mess. Hope he rebounds. The more quality heavyweights the better.
I think he will be, but still not your typical choice for a guy’s 6th fight. If he gets rid of Dimitrenko faster than than Ruiz he gets a nice PR boost by being able to claim he handled his last opponent easier than the champ did, which should give him sufficient momentum. Both Allen and Joyce have expressed desire to have a rematch with him, so he’s got some appleaing options going forward to work his way into title contention.
