Di anyone see where MArtinez had his open workout, in the ****ing corner of a SHOP!!! Can you imagine Marvin Hagler having a workout in a sports shop???? Di Bella is cheap....Arum is right put sergio on PPV see how many PPV buys he does ! ****ing cheap skate....TOP rank and GOlden boy at least invest in their fighters. Can you imagine BRadley ever making 5G's with his previous Fat Man promoter...that dude SHAW did two shows all year last year!
In a shop? That is shameful. Unfortunately no promoter will invest in Martinez at his age, as he doesn't have much time left at the top. That's why he's so desperate for a big fight, but he doesn't have the draw for the big names to risk fighting him.
Dibella is the guy that got Martinez on HBO you tit ! Before signing with Dibella, Martinez was making 1000 euro paydays and had to work to support himself. Dibella gave him a contract that guaranteed at least 30 grand per fight. Now he is on HBO, is a champ and gets million dollar paydays. No one wanted to sign Martinez because he was unknown and old. Do some research !
But isn't a sports shop a step above a gym in terms of drawing attention? You not only reach out to the die hard fans but those who aren't necessarily into boxing may discover you and could become a fan. Manny Pacquiao holds his open workouts at the Wild Card Gym which isn't exactly located in the most upscale area. From what I've seen it looks like a hole in the wall. Imagine if he moved to a nicer environment where you can buy a fresh pair of shoes, take pics, get an autograph, and see some beauties walking by (the average girl isn't a boxing fan and wouldn't be shopping at a boxing gym)
Yeah Lou, is not good at marketing his fighters... Arum offered Martinez 2.5 Mil to fight Cotto last year and they turned it down... Martinez since that point has had to fight twice just to make that same 2.5..
I dont mind Lou DiBella, the worst US promoter by far is Gary "Site Fees" Shaw. Every 2nd card of his is at the Chumash Casino in front of 300.
If it was held at the Modell's located in the middle of times square it's a big deal.. That area is ALWAYS crowded with people and I'm sure Sergio got plenty of publicity. For those of you that's never been to times square.. STFU and Google it.
