Eh, you got to have some proof throwing around allegations like that. That was a damn close fight anyhow. Not sure how anyone could label it a robbery.

Collazo won. Was it close? Yeah, it was, but Collazo still won. Then Berto goes on to fight bums while holding onto his paper belt. Berto-Urango? Yeah, that's a great fight. Berto-Quintana? Woo hoo. Berto-Hernandez? A cool 1 million Berto gets paid. Yeah, this is a man of the people. I'll get off Berto.

What about Malignaggi-Ngoudjo? Sorry, Ngoudjo. You lose. I'm going to cash out Paulie fighting Hatton. Edwin Rodriguez-Will Rosinsky: Sorry, Rosinsky, Rodriguez is my cash cow, you lose....and plus you won't even win a round! Allen Green-Glen Johnson? No robbery, but he didn't stand by Green's side when he was complaining because Glen Johnson was his fighter, too. So, no harm no foul for DiBella. No skin off his bones.

Now, he's making worthless tune up fights on ShoBox...with the help of Al Haymon, of course. As a fan, he does show passion and he is a cool dude. He definitely seems like a guy you'd want to hang out with at the bar shooting the breeze. But as a promoter? No way, he's no different than any other promoter. He's looking out for him and his products. The only difference is that he's small time, with a small stable and limited dates available. So, it doesn't happen as frequently. That's the only difference. All this man of the people stuff, and he looks out for the fans is nonsense. Couldn't be more wrong. He's just another boxing promoter.

I'm on board with a lot of this. A lot of truth contained in your post. However, I was responding to the Collazo-Berto stuff. I don't see how anyone can say he robbed Collazo and bought Berto the belt. It was a close fight, probably should've been a draw. I can't remember my score... was probably a draw or Collazo shaded it. If Lou stole it for Berto he's good at getting the judges to make it close, while the fight is actually close.

I agree with the spirit of your post. You said it well. He's basically the lesser of the evils. But it's a huge lesser as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, he's passionate but probably ingenue when that righteousness conflicts with his interest. Who wouldn't be? As long as it's not outrageous, corrupt, and unjust then it's not all that bad.

As for the Green-Johnson incident. I guess if its a matter of principle he should stand by Green if it's right. But it's a business. I don't see how could stand up for Green in such a conflict. I guess if he was the man for the people and the man for what's right he would've. I suppose that's your point. Then again, it's not like Green deserved being fought for. Johnson may have landed the final blow to the back of the head, but Green was complaining half the time during the bout, and complaining while on the canvas instead of getting up like a true fighter should do. Maybe that's irrelevant, though.

I agree with what you write, but when it comes to promoters we've got to lower your standards a little (I guess what I mean is it's all relative). Who is a promoter that you think is good and like then? Of the notables, DiBella has to be closer to the top... that's all. The fact he's not free of dirt might say far more about this corrupt industry and what it takes to survive it, and less about Lou.

It seems to be getting worse and happening far more frequently. As per usual though, there will be outcry, but very little will be done.

  12. It's a disgrace Ilesey. But already the revisionism is in full flow, with biased articles. Most boxing journalists are feeble cowards. There should be an outcry to this across the board. :-(

DiBella is the only promoter in the business who has emotional involvement with his fighters - and look where it took him. You must either be a sack of **** stealing lying *******, or a professional corporate negotiator such as Schaefer who cuts the money deal with the networks, DiBella's old school ways don't fit. Well probably his coke habits neither.

That hardly fits for corruption, I mean for the sake of real robberies, let's not call a result that actually split the crowd one, it was close, although I had Collazo winning too.
