Those things are all pretty much irrelevant in today's boxing world if you're the wrong ethnicity. Top Rank and Golden Boy wouldn't have turned him into a star; they'd be doing their best to keep him away from their own guys who they think can be stars (much like Top Rank did with Gamboa and Lopez and Golden Boy is currently doing with Moreno and Mares).
