My abiding memory of lou, was getting decked by roger mayweather at the end of the paz fight? He is now seriously ill, if i remember rightly!!
he was a true tough guy. I think he had so many talents and so little time he rushed a lot of his fighters Czyz against Hamsho and Evander on fast track but it payed off for some of them later on. He was a presence in the corner and loved his fighters and knew this game from way back
In addition to that incident, he also gave Taylor terrible advice going into that 12th round in the corner. He told Meldrick that he "needed" the round and to go for it, when he was clearly winning and now thoroughly exhausted. Staying well away from Chavez was what he needed to do, and one didn't require the advantage of hindsight to know that at the time.
Dont know much about him but he came across as right **** ina video someone posted a few years back, i think Unforgiven posted the video about the top heavyweights during '91 and who they though was the top 5 and Duvas answer was 1) Holyfield 2) Holyfield 3) Holyfield 4) Holyfield and 5) that Mike Tyson guy but he aint going to be around for much longer, now i dont know what he meant by that whether he was commenting that Holyfield was going to end Tysons career or whether he was referring to the **** trial either way i enjoy watching Tyson making Golota quit and making Duva scream
I see a lot of people throwing dirt around. That was Al Certo a friend of Lou's from the old school of boxing, Certo called Golota a dog or something of that nature
yea the fight was close and Chavez was gaining ground even though Meldrick was trying to box the boxing was not holding Chavez off. I think at that point of a fight you hope a trainer knows his fighter and the triggers to get the results. MT took some hard body shots and was hurt in the round before so its a tough call
The fact that he's still alive is shocking. He reminds me so much of Fat ******* from the Austin Powers movie.......
Taylor is not cut from the "run circles around" the ring cloth. Taylor is a Philly headbanger and for him to stand in there and shut it down with Chavez for 11 rounds is a miracle. Nobody bangs with Chavez and he did and he paid for it. Taylor is a tough guy and Lou Duva should take no blame for that loss. Richard Steele, no blame. Blame Chavez's right hand from the 9-11th round popping Taylors head all over the place.
He didn't even imply it. He said it outright. He called Holyfield 'lazy' and said that half the time, he could not be sure if Holyfield would even show up to train. This is a direct contradiction to the praise he showered on Holyfield's dedication when he was in the Duva camp.
Evander Holyfield sure as hell didn't look "untrained" when he met Bowe in any of their fights. I think Duva's claim was sower grapes over him leaving.
