i've seen gyms like that, they focus on conditioning a lot and little on technique.

thankfully my gym wasnt like that, my club is like the amateur version of wild card (no exaggeration), people from all over london used to come for sparring and the sparring sessions were done at no less than 100%, there isnt a coach in the ring with us, they're usually on the apron shouting instruction, just 2 boxers in there going 100% but if we hurt someone we have to back off.

Our sparring was like that, made me gunshy since I was in with people who weighed no less than 160. The gym I'm at now is big on technique, our sparring is controlled and then once in awhile we'll go all out to see where we're out. I like it a lot

It's good that you're conscientious while sparring.

The mention of guys out for blood brings back bad memories. I remember some 160-170er putting a beating on a 130er. Seriously WTF!

When I yelled on the bigger guy to hold back a bit he merely said "I know".

I have to admit that normally it's fun to watch, but when it's a friend of yours getting pounded, it's enough to make anyone squirm.
