Power is power, however it's generated. And in many of Lewis's opponents' cases they had speed, explosivity and technique to add to that power. Why the hell should Lewis not be given any credit?

Are you seriously trying to say that the punchers Louis fought had better punching technique than Lewis's opponents?

Good point Tommy. I just want to say though, Holy was lean & athletic looking at Cruiser, with a very slim 28" waist. In contrast, Rocky was a stocky little tank & his waist appeared to be around 32" in my eyes. This is the same size as a fully bulked up Holy's waist, of say Bowe II, Tyson I & II vintage. So yes, maybe Marciano could've fought well above 200lbs using PED's, but it's not guaranteed obviously. Holy seemed to have the ideal frame for bulking up.

Kind of silly to compare Holyfield with Marciano. They had two very different body types and were stylistically miles apart. Marciano himself said that he felt sluggish at 200, hence his cutting weight. At 220 he'd look like Tony Galento and probably be just as mobile.

Holyfield had the mesomorph frame to pack on usable lean muscle without suffering any real decrease in speed, Marciano didn't.

I can never remember who it was, but either Chris Pontius or OLD FOGEY (edward morbius) did some research here and came up with Ali, Louis, Lewis as the top three, all time, in that order. But it all depends on what you define as a puncher. Seamus, for example, would probably have Lewis at one and Louis outside the top 3. Janitor would likely have Louis at one, and might have Lewis outside the top three. All in all, I think it's fine just to agree that these three excelled in this department and leave it at that.

I am certainly not suggesting that Lewis should get more credit, but I think that perhaps he somtimes gets too much.

Jimmy Young dropped a prime George Foreman, while the heavyweight monsters of the 90s couldn't.

I think that boxers generaly get under rated as chin checkers, and obviously the boxers that Louis fought did have better punching form than Lewis's opponents.
